OneLeaf Mars MT1000 Coyote # 1

Well, last night just before midnight I finally caught up with him. I have been after this coyote for seems like an eternity. He would make one appearance at the bait site and then be gone for who knows when, 9 days plus many times making it difficult to hunt when he showed up again. He showed up on the 14th and got some food, so he returned three days later - and I was waiting this time.

Bullet impact is where the dark circle is behind his shoulder. 6.5 Grendel, 90 gr. Varmageddon at 80 yards, pass through with only about a quarter size exit, pencil size entry. He dropped and then ran about 25 yards before collapsing. The scope is the new OneLeaf Mars MT1000 with a 50mm lens that gives a base magnification of 2.8x. I zoomed up one time for the shot which was 5.6x.

Here he is tantalizing me.

This has been the worst season I have had in many years. I have only taken 3 coyotes since August. Last year I got 16. But, it's still fun trying.

I have a Mars Mt1000 coming. How are you liking yours?
Hipp, I like it overall, especially for the money.

Things I like: size, weight and appearance, easy to use menu, reticle choices, one time zoom (5.6x) is plenty good to use with minimal distortion. My aging eyes like a bit more magnification. Resolution is pretty good, one short push of the record button to begin video - I like this feature. Most scopes require a long press. One short push makes it easy to get recording going fast. Most hunters like video over photos, so OneLeaf apparently considered that and got it right from the start. The 18650 removable battery is a good feature. Great customer service (communication) unlike any I have ever seen. My multiple emails were answered promptly. I requested that black reticles be available in future scopes, and a few weeks later James at OneLeaf emailed me a link to install a black one. He didn’t forget me. He was also very willing to listen to my opinion and suggestions about improving the scope.

Things I don’t like: The on/off button is on the right side, and in my opinion, not good for right hand shooters. My cheek is anchored on the left side of the scope, causing a little difficulty in visually locating the button, plus my right hand has to leave the grip and fumble to find the button. This may not be an issue for some, and admittedly it’s a minor one, but for me personally I prefer the button on the left side, or better yet on top. As well, the on/off button is relatively small and somewhat flush, and a little difficult to find in the dark without looking. It can be illuminated, however (can be turned on or off - I keep mine off since I don't want any light noticeable to coyotes), but still a little difficult to find without rotating the rifle sideways in order to see it. A larger button and protruding outward slightly would make finding it much easier. The scope mount configuration is more suited to an AR platform, but it can also be used on a bolt gun. It just requires a different mounting position to give the proper eye relief, plus it looks a little funky and sits a little high on a bolt rifle. I have also addressed this with James at OneLeaf and suggested the company consider producing a tube style scope that can easily fit either bolt or AR. Battery cap is sometimes difficult to align properly to thread the cap closed. Battery spring is stiff requiring some pushing force to seat the battery and get the cap aligned and closed. I am always afraid of stripping the threads. Too many useless color pallets that probably 99% of hunters will never use. However, there is a night vision green type pallet that is pretty cool, similar to the view through the older Gen 3 type scopes for anyone that might like that one. No black colored reticle for use on white hot. I have also addressed this issue with James at OneLeaf and he passed it on to the tech crew. As mentioned previously, he did however, send me a link to install a black reticle (though that will lose the yellow one in so doing), great CS but the scope should already come with a black one, and I think future scopes probably will. Just a minor overlook by OneLeaf. The view is very good, but I believe at this point I like the black hot view through my Infiray Bolt TL-35 v2 384 a bit better, and the white hot better on the MT1000, but as I say, for the money you are getting a pretty darn good scope. I like it well enough to buy again for that price point. And notice I said "buy." My honest review here is based on my personal opinion, and with a scope I purchased with my own money. It was not given to me. I do have a code for a discount if anyone is interested.

Hope this helps.

How about the LRF? Thanks for the information. I was worried about customer service but you put my mind at ease..
I haven't used the LRF so I can't speak to that. I hunt at an 80 yard bait site so it is not something I really need, and I haven't used the ballistic calculator either. Those are good features to have, though. I just sighted dead on at 80 and the scope has thus far held zero. DoubleUp has the same scope and he uses the LRF. You might want to reach out to him. As to CS, communication has been fantastic. If repairs are needed, I'm not sure what process might be needed to return it. I think it is shipped from Hong Kong. Personally I am not worried at the moment about that, given the promptness in which James has responded to me.

I just took notice that you have a discount code. I ordered mine right before their month long holiday. They are going to start shipping again on the 28th maybe I can still get a discount.
