I would prefer to buy a rifle where I can walk in a door and look a guy in the face.
If you were put in a position where you could save $50 online, or you were buying a hard-to-get gun and could get it quicker from an online supplier.....would you?
Has anyone dealt with an online gun sales company that is reputable?
 
I have purchased many guns from GUN BROKER, AUCTION ARMS, GUNS AMERICA, and from people on various forums with no problems.

If buying from an auction site check the sellers rating, if buying from someone on an online board search their threads and see how other deals they have made worked out, a lot of boards have good guy list. Ask questions, get and give phone numbers, get shipping tracking numbers, send funds certified if you have not done business with seller.

Ask about inspection period and return policy. Ask about difference in opinion as to condition once you have gun in hand. Ask for more photos to be posted before you decicde. This also lets you know that the seller has the gun. Try and talk with the seller on the phone.

I buy and sell a lot through GunsAmerica and GunBroker. Be sure that the receiving FFL is OK with a gun shipped from a non-FFL. Its legal under federal law, but some FFL's don't know that or won't receive such a shipment.
 
I have bought and sold on some of these forums, and auction sites, with good luck. Knock on wood. I think most of the guys who are on here are super. But as in everything else, there are snakes in some rock piles. I sent a gun out for sale, (not on this site) and the customer was asking about a scratch, and I gave him a three day no shoot inspection. There was no scratch when I sent it. He ended up sending it back, poorly packaged, uninsured, and I assure you, there was no scratch when it left my house. I also assure you he shot the rifle. When I ship a rifle, It ships spotless. I like the buyer to spend an extra $20 bucks, and I go the the local gun shop, and buy a cheap plastic Rifle case, with the egg crate foam in it, slip it back into the cardboard box it came in, and ship it. When the gun shipped, the postal gorilla's would really have to do something to damage the firearm. In the end, the purchaser gets a cheap case, he could either ship the rifle back in, or store something else in. I'm not real big on rifle inspections because of that, but I realize this is just my problem, and some people just don't tell the truth. As of late, I am not into "shipped" price. If you buy something on a web site, you pay shipping. If you buy something at Cabelas by catalog, you pay shipping. If you don't like what they ship you, you pay shipping back the other way. Unless the deal is stated shipped don't assume it. I just sold a rifle, It was listed on this site, but sold on another site. General shipping is about $25 bucks ground. A guy from WA state ended up buying the rifle, and with Insurance and Priority, to assure he recieved his expensive purchase, cost me another $15 bucks. Not much in the scheme of things, but enough. He did by a plastic case, and when the rifle got there, he loved it. Just be careful, and ask for references. Phone numbers, as stated, and by all means, talk to the seller on the phone. If he does not have the answers your looking for, go elsewhere. Just my two cents.
 
The thing I hate is when you sell a gun, take the time and gas to ship it (in a hard case inside a cardboard box insured), and the guy wants to return it without a good reason. I mean, if you need your wife's permission to buy a gun a month before Christmas, get it before you buy the gun.
 
I don't see the upside to buying anything online espescially firearms. Because by the time you pay for shipping and the transfer fees you usually only save 20-30 bucks over going to a local shop and buying it new. And you don't have to wait for the seller to clear funds or get around to shipping the buyer the item. Personally it's worth 20-30 dollars to not have to hassle with all of that. I think if you are going to sell anything online you should sell it low enough to offset the fees and still be a good enough deal to have to wait on it.

Now you do run into those good deals occasionally! But those are usually bought site unseen and in a hurry, a bit risky if you ask me. But to those who have gotten those good deals, congrats and good luck( I honestly mean that )

For instance: Just today I saw the new Savage 10 predator at my local shop for $631.98. Could I get a good enough deal on one online after paying shipping and transfer fees to make it worth the wait? I doubt it. And I wouldn't save sqaut either.

I'm all for supporting the little guy. If you are going to buy a current manfacture rifle, I agree you you chupathingy 100%, the hassle, waiting, and the not getting to feel the rifle, is not worth the $30 savings. Feed the little guy in your town. On the flip side, I bought an item online, that the local dealer wanted $125 more, for the same exact thing. Now 30-35 bucks, I can see, and he would have gotten my bussiness. But $125 I felt was just a little too much mark up. Also, there are specific things that are no longer produced, that you almost have to buy places like here and other sites. I've bought some Leupolds off of a few guys here, and they saved me big bucks. I'm appreciative of that. There are a bunch of good guys here, and most deals have gone without a hitch. The gun market is crazy. The prices have really gone through the roof. I feel you can buy a good used rifle here, and save a lot of loot. Just don't be too trustworthy, and use your head when you make a deal.
 
I have had good success buying guns online. Here in Ca. with the taxes, and the overall prices of the guns, I always save money buying them Online. For instance, Buds Guns, advertises on some of the Auction sites, and I got a brand new rifle, that after paying the FFL and paying 0$'s on sales tax,I still saved 100 dollars over what the other dealers in my area wanted. The ones I bought from Auctions online were great as well. I thinks its a matter of " Take your Chances" . All my dealings have been good.
 
I try to support the local guy too, but it's got to where they don't know squat about what they're selling or are so one-sided on a particular brand that it's not worth my time.

I've had good luck with deals from folks on this forum and others.

www.atlanticfirearms.com has been the fastest and easiest online company I've dealt with.
The fun part comes in trying to find a local FFL dealer who's not a nut job or trying to charge you an arm and a leg. In the San Antonio area I recomend www.wetmoreshootingsports.com . The guy is a bit of a character but he only charges 25.00 for transfer and is smooth to deal with.

If your like me, you don't focus a great deal on the name of the person who posts any given question on these forums. I mostly focus on the question itself, and the answers that follow. But lately I have been in the market of a new gun and have asked many, many questions and felt like I was being a pain in the neck. All the while, hoping noone noticed that I was starting so many threads asking so many questions!
Anyhow, in asking these questions, I found the gun that I wanted in a Tikka Hunter series 22-250 >>> LEFT HAND
 
I support the local shops often and buy online often. Internet sales have been a blessing for us gun owners. What I mean by that is our local gun shops don't want to give you squat for YOUR gun whether you trade it or want to sell it. They seem to want to double their money on used guns. So I sell mine online and get a fair price.
 
I have purchased several rifles online thru gunbroker, all of them happen to be old swiss military rifles so condition was never an issue as pics where posted. I never had a problem that didnt get resolved very quickly. I dont have a problem with a transfer dealer as I have signed copys of his ffl on file to use as I see fit! he only charges 10 bucks for the transfer!

It gets better! Lets say I want a new rifle, I roll into his shop and tell him what I want, IF he doesnt have already, he orders it, I get it within a week and I pay his cost, shipping and 10 bucks...thats it! He runs a small pawn shop here in town and runs about 500 to 600 guns a month out of it! Without a dout he has more inventory than the local Sportsmans, and the closest competitor combined. New guns I go there, old ones I have to shop for online.
