opinion on AR accessories .

My vote = vertical grip and lasers. I do have one small rail for my kill light. Other than that, just a scope and sling. I keep a small open reed call in my grip as a backup.

I would have to say one of the worst is Spike's fake supressors. What's the point other than trying to look cool at the range?

I hear ya, have you ever seen the ATI setups for the single shot shotguns. They sell a fake bird cage flash hider, AR style stock, and grip.......straight mall ninja

This has nothing to do with an AR but i seen a shotgun the otherday at a gun shop, i think it was a mossberg with a huge muzzle brake on it. Looked like it came off a .50 bmg. [beeep], how dumb is that. My buddy has a fake can that threads on to the end of his pencil barrel and tightens up against his handguard. The handguard is a rifle length with a 16" barrel. I thaught what good is that!! It definetly messes with the harmonics. He talked to some guy and he said it helps when the barrel gets hot to keep it from throwing shots. Ya ok..

I have to differ with you on this. I have a .264 18" with a KIES linear comp/brake on it and find it offers a couple of benefits. First, it does tame muzzle rise/recoil a bit making it easier to get the sights back on target for a second shot.

Second, it sends more of the muzzle blast down range compared to a plain target crown, or a traditional brake, or a flash hider. I know we're all using hearing protection, but this does make it a bit easier on my ears even with the muffs on.

In philosophy, I HATE "tacticool" rifles...

But here's the story of my favored coyote rig...

I bought a Bushy XM15-E2S ("M4") AR-15 right after the ban got lifted, telescoping stock, 16" HBAR. I had several AR-15's, but all were either NM competition rifles or flat-top hunting rifles, and I didn't have a carbine at all.

Eventually I decided that hauling a 24" heavy barrel AR with an A2 fixed stock around wasn't much fun, so I decided to keep this carbine in the truck as coyote medicine while I'm checking cattle (pelican case, fits perfectly under the rear seat of my truck).

And I decided it needed a scope, so I added a carry handle scope rail and a compact 3-9x40mm scope, which later changed to a 4-16x42mm glass, and now a 6-18x40mm Nikon Buckmaster.

Then a year or two later I decided I wanted a bi-pod, which meant I needed a single rail on the underside of the handguard and a bipod adapter to use with Harris pods.

At the same time, I had gotten tired of how uncomfortable it was to carry this rifle across my back with a normal sling, so I had swapped to a side mounted sling (tie on job), and after a few months of that, I broke down and got a single point sling mount. I was pleasantly surprised with how convenient the single point sling was for carrying the rifle at low ready while spot-n-stalk hunting coyotes (and deer, I have a 6.8mm upper I use with this lower as well).

A year after that, I decided that I didn't like holding it by the mag-well because it's not as stable as a longer grip radius, and holding it up by the forend is uncomfortable with the pic-rail, so I added a vertical foregrip.

Most recently, I added an open red-dot sight on a 45degree offset rail mount to the side of my scope. I've been doing more and more night hunting lately, and the 6-18x glass just wasn't working out. I already owned the site, so all I needed was a $30 off-set mount. Again, I was pleasantly surprised how convenient having the extra site was for short range shots, or on follow up shots for doubles. MUCH easier making doubles with the red dot than the scope, but I still want the scope for making those 200-600yrd shots.

So as it stands today, I'm sure my rifle looks incredibly "tacticool" by most guys standards, but my honest intent was function over form. Sure, it's pretty heavy, but it's still lighter than my 24" heavy barrels, and it's short and compact, making it very weildly, and very convenient. This rifle is right at home 1) as my truck rifle for checking cattle (opportunity shots), 2) taking dogs at 600yrds over pasture, 3) calling coyotes at night, and 4) dropping doubles or dogs on the run.

Trying to redeem myself a little bit, I DID take the time to camo wrap the rifle, and I DID add a "Wile E. Coyote" sticker to the scope cap, and I generally only use 5 or 10rnd mags rather than full 30rnd mags, but nevertheless, it still looks like I was going for "looks" rather than function.

Yes, I would roll my eyes if I saw another shooter pull up with this rifle at the range, and yes, I'm ok with it when other shooters roll THEIR eyes when I drop her down on the bench... Thankfully I shoot it well enough to earn a little respect back, but I definitely understand the "oh boy, look at this joker" mentality...

Not a lover of the pink gun huh. I have agree with you on that too. However I did have 3 hello kitty mags painted up to use for requalification at work. The range master does not think it is funny at all, but he doesn't kick me off the range anymore for showing up with them.

I have a few ideas. Not all are AR specific, but this seems like a fitting place.

-Bipods that clamp onto the barrel
-Those stupid pistol "bayonets"
-Mag well grips
-The $150 tool kit that slides into the pistol grip
-9mm AR's
-16" Bull-Barrels
-Accessories other than a front sight mounted to the gas block
-"camo" jobs done with gloss walmart paint.
-Scopes mounted wayyyy back over the charging handle

Best I have seen is a wide beam green laser for night hunting, but the guy wakes up a 10 in the morning and goes home when the street lights come on. But, I do have to admit, if he ever used it for its intended purose, it would be ok. Problem is the D@%$ thing is alwasys in the way when trying to test loads, needless to say, he only shoots when all of the other guys I run around with arent around.
