Opinions on Browning A-bolt Medallion

Thanks GC

The A-Bolt sure wouldn't be my choice for a dangerous game rifle, then again, neither would the 700 that I'm so fond of but I'll take my chances with a 20lb predator with either one.

I like my Micro for the same reasons you like your M7 but either of us could probably find a number of other makes and models that would fill the same bill.
Personally, I'm just glad we can still make those choices and have so many manufacturers to choose from. Truth is,,, they've all got their strong and weak points.

As far as hanging around more goes,,,, my daddy once told me "everything in moderation".

Take care buddy.

hopefully i get to shoot the rifle soon! i too am a big fan of remington 700 rifles, great rifles. wanted to try a browning to change it up a bit, if i don't like it i will be able to sell it at least for what i bought it for if not more. as with optics, everyone has their own opinion of what is the best. its always interesting to find peoples perspectives on certain brands, a lot of times it comes down to your usage of a rifle or optic.

since we are on the topic... what are some good bases/rings for the browning a-bolt setup.

now i gotta decide whether to top it with a redfield 4-12, vortex viper 3-9, or nikon monarch bdc 3-9

I think mine are Burris. They're fine, but if I were to do it over I'd put some Tally Lightweights. I mean, the whole idea of the Micro Hunter is a 6 3/4 lb light weight rifle and then I go and stick some heavy bases and rings on it. Not sure what I was thinking. ha

I've used these on a couple of rigs lately and really like em.
Pretty good looking, strong as any, and ya can move em to any rifle that Weaver makes bases for (and that's just about all of em).

They're my newest favorites unless I'm trying to save weight. Then it's Talley's all the way.

As far as glass goes,,, my choice would be a 3.5-10 VX3 but then glass is as subjective as rifle choices, isn't it?

How about some pix of the new Browning?

Charlie,

Had I not gotten drug into the mix, I would not have posted at all. It truly is a sore subject.

For over 6 years I have tried to get someone, anyone, to tell me what the A-bolt offers for the price in comparison to other rifles in terms of design, performance, quality. NOBODY has ever taken me up on it.
ohmy.gif
Yet I have clearly stated my points of view on the subject, repeatedly, categorically, and in depth.

As always, I'm all ears if anyone would like to go over the "finer attributes" of the A-bort, piece by piece. Mostly what I get is "comments" and changing of the subject. Nothing in depth, nothing of any substance. And THAT is what makes it a sore subject. Same thing with Tikkas.

Truth is, I really don't care anymore.

Now quit doggin' on my revolver........

i'll try to get some up tonight. since i bought the gun i've been home a total of 8 hours and that was to sleep! been a crazy summer, looking forward to this fall when i can take some vaca for hunting

Hopefully you won't.

Do me a favor and save your comments from the peanut gallery. I can't stand parrots.

Then PM will be a happier place

Let me guess, you feel this post served a good purpose also? Mine was on topic, yours, not so much. The exact kind of unwarranted, senseless background chirping that none of us care to hear......

Just because Grizz threw a bumper out into the pond doesn't mean you have to jump in and go swimming willy nilly after it.

Ya know,,,, I agree with ya wholeheartedly about Tika's too, but just like the A-Bolt, they seem to work just fine, so if someone likes em,,, fine with me.
Personally, I don't like a one size fits all bolt that's almost as long as the barrel, and a little tiny ejection port that hardly seems big enough for a rim-fire cartridge. Nor do I like the recoil lug (or lack there of) but for the lighter recoiling calibers, they seem to work fine and again, will probably last the average Joe a couple lifetimes. Add to that, a Sako barrel that lends it's self to accuracy and a price point that most can afford and I can see why they sell. Just not to me.

As far as your "POS" revolver goes,,,, mine was actually a stainless Vacero in 45Colt that wouldn't hit the side of a barn.
After allot of load work and experimenting I finally figured out that I can't shoot a hand-gun for chit and sold all of mine.

You have already afforded it MUCH more attention than I ever planned to, if you read my original reply.

I don't really give a rip either. Just don't forget, threads that start with "Opinions on..." are likely to garner just that.

A Vaquero is NOT a Bisley BH. I'm blaming your shooting abilities......

It is good to hear from you, my friend. You haven't been around much. Hope all is good......

I must apologize TOO MUCH. I didn't realize this was your personal forum. I guess I need to check the forum administration page for your bio. IN fact, I could really care less about what you like or don't like. I'd rather be seen as a parrot than a 12 year old bully who grew up to be an internet bully who obviously got old and grouchy far too early in life.

Carry on my friend.

I know,,, it was a joke.
Guess my humor isn't any better than my hangun shooting skills.

I really did get rid of all my handguns except for a little K22.
Can't hit anything with em anyway, so what's the point?

Do you mean useless comments like "A-BORTS are a POS"? Or add any other make of rifle you don't like. With that I'll step aside and let you have our usual last and final informative words.

I know you were joking.

That little K22 is a sweetheart.

I'm not the greatest hangun shot in the world, but I'm not bad. I guess that is part of the fun. Honing one's skills. Easy ain't never fun to me. And that includes women

The few deer I have taken with my handguns are special to me specifically because both hunts were very challenging, and the outcomes in question right until the end. That is what makes them memorable......

When opinions are asked, opinions are going to be given.

Why don't you concentrate on giving some of YOUR OWN "educated opinions", and stop dwelling on those of my own.

Although I do find all the attention you continually afford me highly flattering....

Any time you would like to have a formal, and civil, in depth discussion on rifle design with yours truly, please, let me know. I'm sure all here will fully enjoy it. After all, it is an OPEN forum.

I tried to have one with you on the Tikka, but it got ugly because you apparently had nothing of substance to add.

If you would like, we could start a new thread now, you can tell me your (positive) thoughts on the Tikka, and I can tell you my thoughts. I promise I will be on my best behavior.

Or you can just run and hide like you did the last time.

You in?

Telling someone that what they own or just bought is a POS is not "a formal, and civil, in depth discussion on rifle design." It is a crude attempt at being important and nothing more.

My.... I think your avatar is showing more teeth than normal. It is getting really scary. And I love your view of things. You always win just like Superman. He's nothing but a comic book figure.

I'll just "run and hide" since no one has an extended conversation with you unless it involves stoking your ego. After their first statement, they end up listening the rest of the time if it is not what you wanted to hear. I am not going to waste the effort. I know that means "you win and I lose" but I can sleep tonight knowing that. My ego isn't requiring extra inflation like yours is.

Carry on TOO MUCH.
