Opinions on Nightforce

What are the main advantages to Nightforce? I am wondering if the optics are as sharp as say Swarovski,Zeiss and Leica. Or is it the sturdiness of the scope that garners such high regard? Are they actually American made? Not trying to knock them down just wondering what their main strong points are.
Thanks.

They are made in Japan to the best of my knowledge.
Very tough scope...It is also a very heavy scope.
Great choice of some awsome reticles, too.
Clarity is the best I have ever seen for a high power.
Which one are you looking at?

Have been doing some reading on them and have looked at their site at the 3.5-15x50 NXS. Not sure I even want to drop that kind of change and if I do I am wondering how they stack up with the Euro scopes. I'm working on getting a rifle built for calling so would like to keep the weight down but don't want to short change the gun either. Probably will go with either a Nikon Monarch or Leupold III or an 4200 Elite.

They are spendy, no doubt. if you are trying to keep the wieght down you may want to exlore other avenues. The scope your looking at is 30ozs.
But looking at it in the catalog it sounds like a nice choice. What are you putting it on and what are you hunting?

I have a NF 5.5 x 22 x 56 I bought for low light applications and it is great, it is mounted on a 300 win mag. I think the parts are made in Japan and assembled in Idaho. A lot of the leading scopes have Japanese glass/ parts it’s nothing new. It is a heavy scope and they are not cheep, what I like is the glass is exceptional and it tracks with the turret knobs like a laser.

I have a 6.5 x 20 50 Zeiss conquest scope on my 7mm-08 Ti with turret knobs that I like. The power might be a little too much for a close to medium range rifle. Might look at a 3 x 9 or a 3.5 x 10 for your application.

Here is a web site you might want to look at Doug is a good guy to deal with if interested.

http://cameralandny1.reachlocal.net/ look at the top and select demo’s, the demo’s look like new and will save you a few bucks.

Having a AR built. Coyote will be the main game. I know I should also probably go with AO but I don't like messing with adjusting so I think I'll just go with something along the line of 3-9.

Blueboat - What are these Demo's? Are they just scopes that have been handled in the store or have they been mounted up and used at a range? I agree they are good prices.

I have used many top end scopes,..and Nightforce, for the money, is the best. They are so heavy due to being capable of the military applications they agreed to. They are tested beyond most folks comprehension. The glass is superb, and have one of the hardest coatings available. The extra weight is what makes their adjustments so perfect,..they are a stout scope. The gears and springs are second to none.

Read the reviews on snipercountry.com The guy drove nails with one, and it held zero after that.

Get what you pay for......

My MK IV's have long since been replaced by NXS's

They are heavier and more expensive than some others, but it`s all that i use.

All my coopers wear `em 9 and counting to be exact.

I would have to agree with the fellas that answered before, I too have changed all my scopes to NXS's. I think I am going to try another scope (much less$$$$) for a coyote gun but still have not decided on which one.

I don't know where the BEST of you'r knowledge came from, but I can tell you for positive!!!!! that they are made right here in Orifino Idado. (A small logging comunity.)
They are very heavy, and probably not the best for preditor hunting or bench rest cause they make it hard to make weight for the hunter or varmint class. But they are the best glass you will ever look through.
One of the ways that NightForce got their military contract was to beat a Luppy to pieces with a NightForce scope.
This is coming from a Luppy fan, but NF really is in a league of it's own. And not a Japanese league.

Everything I hear is good but if you have to meet a weight limit to compete in a class, they are not possible.

If you are not competing or worried about weight, go for it. If it wasn't for the weight limits BR shooters would have dumped Leupold for NF years ago.

Yes GreifShorthairs, they buy most of the demo's from sport shows where the vendors take their goods for show. Doug will also let you check out the scope and if you don't like it you can send it back. Call doug at camera land and talk to him he is a very nice guy.

Mike

i would love to have a nightforce and probably will someday. for the money you cant beat leupold. i have several different manufacturers scopes on my rifles. i swear by leupold but i aint gonna go drive nails with any of them. nightforce included.

They are good. I have one mounted on my 50BMG and they are Heavy. BUT they are also nice and bright and like stated before track real nice. I also have a Lupy Mk IV 6.5-20 Illuminated reticle, which used to be mounted on it. Held up fire for about 100 rounds. It now sits on my Les Baer AR.

A person would have to have better eyes them me, a 23 year old, to be able to tell the difference optically. I would have to give the NSX an edge just because it is so massively overbuilt.

I admit I didn't research it and I will also admit that I was kind of surprised when I saw it but... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

I went to the camera land website and there is no NF scopes listed. I then called and the gentleman says that its not a brand that he is familiar with.
Is this the correct site???
