Opinions on Nightforce

Ive got 3 NXSs. They are good stuff- Very tough, great glass, very reliable/repeatable adjustments.

As to being "Made in Japan". From what I understand- the majority of the parts and glass are made in Japan, but they are assembled in Idaho. All of my NXSs have "Made in Japan". Not that it matters, because the Japanese make very, very good optical products. FWIW, Leupold uses glass from Japan.
 
Ya know another brand that i have heard of is valdada.

Ken Farrell turned me on to these and they look pretty nice,i personally have never held one ,just seen them on line.

Not sure where they are made,but Ken told me that they get their glass from Carl Ziess...

I have a NXS 5.5x22x56 It was on a 7STW, everything that has been said is true. It used to take 34 Min. of adjustment for me to hit a steel plate at around 1200 yards, I could crank it back down and be right on the money @100 yards. The scope has been without a rifle for 2 years now, but will be installed on my new custom 6br. in about 2 weeks, and yes keep your eyes out for the pics, I for sure will be showing it off!

I would if needed buy another one.
 
That, I believe, is an early model, manufactured by a Japanese firm. They had quality control problems, and dumped that manufacturer quite early on. Haaku...(SP?)if I remember correctly.
 
There were persistent rumors years ago that Hakko was making the Nightforce scopes, or at least parts for them, at one time. Not sure if it was true or not. But then again, it really doesn't matter, since Hakko can make scopes just as good as anyone else, if the customer specs them out that way and is willing to pay for them.

All three of my NF are the older BR models. Better optics than the NXS, but quite a bit larger and bulkier. Too big and bulky for anything but shooting off a table at prairie dogs or rock chucks and stuff like that. They are just awesome for that kind of stuff though. Clicks are dead nuts spot on and repeatable day-after-day-after-day. And I can see the color of a rock chuck's eyes at 300 yards, while I'm deciding which one to put a bullet in.

I believe the origial Nightforce scopes were produced by Light Optical Works Ltd. a Japanese firm, but not Hakko. The quality of the scopes was for direct competition with Swarovski, Zeiss, and other europeon mfg. for quality & price. I do not know off any early production problems for them. I only have one, a 5.5x22x56 BR, and it certainly is as quality a scope as any of my Diatals', Diavaris', or Leupolds. The current Nightforce NXS is assembled in Idaho, I don't know where the lense are made, but I would think they would be as good or better than the original Nightforce. JMHO. I have two now, 3.5x15 NXS and 5.5x22 NXS, will never buy another brand for a good rifle. The illumination is great too, as I am a big fan of on/off insted of a continum.

After using Nightforce scopes for several years, I thought I'd try one more Leupold, as that had been my top pick for years before. I bought a VX-III, 4.5-14, with varmint reticule, and stuck it on my 204. First day at the bench, getting things tweaked for my eyes, etc., I was shocked at how poorly it compared to my NF scopes. I took it off, and purchased NF #6. You do get what you pay for, in the Nightforce line.
 
I toured the Hornady Manufacturing plant on Wednesday. They were using a Night Force scope on their test rifle. This was not their rifles used for taking data for manuals. It was the lab were they shoot bullets made by each machine in their factory to make sure the bullets will group to the specifcation, they deem acceptable for each machine. If they shoot a group and it's out of their specifications they tear the machine down and recalibrate it. They said it could take from 20 to 40 hours to set it back up after tear down.
