opinions on semi-auto shotguns

You get zero farther distance with a 3 1/2 over a 3 inch.

Just so people that are reading this thread know, the 3 1/2 inch shell was made to put more pellets on the target. Not to add longer distances.

That is true. I have shot a number of different shells in 2 3/4, 3, and 3/1/2 inch sizes, with differing shot sizes, and different chokes trying to find the "perfect turkey gun". The 3 inch 12 gauage shells are right there with a 3 1/2 up to 50 yards, but beyond that the bigger shell wins. Perhaps it's the fact that there are more pellets on the target, but they do pattern better and kill better. Having said that, I do not like taking shots farther than 50 yards and try not to, but I would feel a lot more comfortable doing so with a 3 1/2 shell than I would with a 3 inch.

Why not buy the 3 1/2" gun just so you have the option of shooting any shells that are available ?
"sorry sir all we have are 3 1/2"....oops

I run nothing but 3" out of 3 different semi autos. 2 of the 3 are for 3.5". Seems like all 3 guns pattern 3" way better.

I run 3" for geese and ducks and don't see thed need for 3.5".

i currently use a win sx3 for ducks and yotes. while mine will shoot 3.5", i shoot 3" ammo. i just couldn't tell a difference between the 3.5 and the 3", so stayed with the 3". ymmv.

Hmmmm. Can you point to a source where Stoeger actually said that the 3000 was created to address "problems" with the 2000? Never heard that from Stoeger before.

Given that both the 2000 and 3000 use the same Benelli action

they both use an inertia bolt which is similar...but the actions are totally different... borrow an m2 dissasmble ,get your 2000 and dissasamble and you will see a night and day difference in the action....i too bought a stoeger thinking i was getting benneli quality for a third of the price and after several game costing malfunctions the 2000 went down the road for a loss and the m2 came home...the 2000 you have is a diamond in the rough and i suggest you never sell it.....
