Opinions on the Burris Fullfield II w/ Ballistic Plex for calling gun scope

I'm looking for some opinions on this scope, preferably from those who have experience with one. I'm kinda thinking I may need one. I have too high powered of a scope on my AR for predator calling, it cost me a coyote at close range yesterday and almost cost me one last week. The scope I'm using is 6X on the low end and 18X on the high end. Great for punching paper and the occasional long shot, but not so good for those surprise close in shots. I can pull my scope off with 2 thumbscrews (Armalite 1 pc. mount) and I'm thinking if I buy another Armalite mount and put say a 3x9x40mm in it, then I've got 2 scopes ready to go to cover about anything. I'm leaning toward the Burris Fullfied II 3-9x40mm w/ Ballistic Plex. What say you guys about this scope for a calling rifle??

I have that exact scope, and it is very nice as dc says. Also, yo can pick one up on ebay for a very good price. I got mine nib for $150 shipped. a few months back.

Sold seven Leupolds. Bought nine Burris's from the black diamond on down. The same scope you are talking about has been in ruff service on my two favorite calling rifles for four years.

Ditto what these guys said. I have the same scope on my deer rifle and I have taken deer with it as close as 10 yards. Sure I saw nothing but brown, but I could make out the area I needed the air let out of.

For the money and the quality, you can't beat it.

I have one on my Bushy and I really like it. One of my buddies put on the 4.5-14x40 (I think thats it)I haven't shot it much but I think I like it better.

I have one on my AR as does my best friend. While they are nice scopes, we both intend on replacing them with Leupolds. Compared to the Leupolds that I have, the Burris is not as clear and Leupold offers the ballistic plex type reticle on their VariX II now. That being said, they aren't a bad scope for the money. I did get a pair of Burris binos that cost near $100 that are rather cheap and I ended up having to send them back for a replacement pair because they were broke.

While the ballistic plex is a neat idea, my rifle is zeroed at 200 yds. The next hash mark is too low for 300, so I still have to use a little Kentucky windage for anything over 200. When I get a range finder, I am going to see exactly what yardage that mark is zero on with my loads. If you do go with it, practice using the scopes features.

Good luck,

Mike

i had 1 with a regular duplex. it had an oval sight picture and was not clear around the edges. it functioned properly and hit what you put it on. i looked thru several other of the same scope and they were all perfect. i just had a bum scope.

I just put one on my tikka t-3,I bought the 4.5-14x42 very clear optics. So far I love it.I got my at cabela's I think it was $299 & another point they are made in the USA.

If I may clear up some inconsistancies;

I was in BassPro just last weekend, browsing the scopes. They had a complete line of Burris fullfield II scopes. All of them had sharp clear optics and I thought the B-plex was enough to make me hard.
However after looking them over I also noticed the 4.5x14x42's were the ones without "Made in USA" stamped on them. All the rest DID in fact have that stamped on them.

I just got first one and mounted it to my latest calling gun. I love it. I got the 3-9x40.

Its on a cz 527 american in .204 ruger. I zeroed between 1 and 2" high at 100 yrds and the first hash down hits about 1-2" high at 300 so i'll use that for 300-350 yrds. At 400 yrds the second hash gives me impacts 4-6" high so i would hold at bottom of chest on coyote or hold the second hash dead on for 450 yrds. I also shot it at 500 yrds and found that perfectly centered between the 2nd and 3rd hash gives me impacts right on. So the third hash would be something i might try 550 to 600 in the ideal conditions. At least its good to know...one would need a good rangefinder to get the most out of them though.

Its clear optics, well built, the right size/weight, and the reticle rocks. I think ranging and using this reticle would be faster in hunting situations than ranging and clicking! But i have never ranged and clicked so i don't know forsure...i just have a suspicion that this would be faster for the hung up coyotes to use.

I'm currently looking to change out all my scopes to this scope. It works for .22 lrs, .17 hmrs, it works for everything. Its not calibrate well for the 4000 fps stuff so thats why i shot it to 500 to see forsure where things would end up...but for everything else it would be calibrated alot better.

I printed up a little chart on a shipping label and stuck it to the inside of my stock so i don't forget if i get all rattled out there. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I have been using the Burris fullfield 2 for a few years now and think they are a great scope at a reasonable cost.I have a 4.5x14-42 ballistic plex on my .204 it has been a great setup for coyote calling. Also have a 3x9-40 ballistic plex on my .221 fireball again wouldn't change this setup either.Good Hunting Chad

I think the 3-9x40 Burris FF2 is the way to go for your situation.

I still think there is a promotional offer going on with this line of scopes.

Burris 3-9x40 Fullfield II + Free Burris 8x32 Landmark Binocular

I have the 4.5-14x42 Burris FF2.

It's mounted on my AR15 varmit upper.

I like it...I like it alot...

Yeah, what one of our dealers did was separate them and charge a reasonable price for each. He prolly did better in the end too and it sure helped ease the cost of the scope! I ended up buying both anyhow, lol. Good promo!
