Opinions on the Ruger American Gen 2

Looking at getting a Ruger American Gen 2 in 6mm Creedmoor.
Wanted to see if any of you have any opinions on this rifle as I have heard a lot of good, but also some bad about it not feeding well.

I don't have one but a friend of mine bought that exact gun. Must be ok because he just bought another but I don know what caliber.

I have a .308 in Gen 2 and haven’t used it much, but no issues so far.
Have a Gen 1 and Predator in .308 and no issue in the Gen 1 but did have some feeding issues with the Predator after a while. The bullets just get “stuck” in the mag. A good “bump” will push them up, but it’s not something you want to be doing while getting on a second target.
I’m in the process of moving everything off the Predator to a new Go Wild .243. I’ll let y’all know if it ever gives me issues.

I have a Gen 2 in 6.5 Grendel, Ive shot it alot and have never had any issues at all. I think the feeding issues were in the Gen 1 for the most part.

I had a Grendel and it shot very well with handloads. I have a 300 BO now and it shoots good to. No problems with either to speak of. Pretty solid rifles for the money. I think the Gen II is actually a better rifle than the first Gen. At least in appearance.

Have a g1 300aac, g2 223, g2 predator 6.5 grendel. All shoot quite well, the g2 has noticeable ascetic improvements.

They are just below tikka in my opinion.

I handled one - a Predator model, I believe with the 22” barrel, a stiff camo stock and a fluted gold-colored barrel. Have to say I was impressed, but it wasn’t chambered in something I’d want and I’ve sworn to quit buying guns; had even been selling some of mine. Now I see some of the Rugers like that in .22 ARC hitting the shelves - and at very reasonable prices - and am very tempted to break my vow.

I bought a Gen 2 in a .204. The trigger wasn't what I like so I put a Timney in it, shoots Sub if I do my part. It's a lesser expensive rifle so is what it is.

Just purchased another mag for my .204 and was having feeding issues. This is a stock polymer mag from Ruger, so I got the dial caliper, a file, emery cloth, and a piece of paper for a feeler gauge, and tuned the feed lips on the magazine to work properly. It measured .331 in front & .320 in the rear when I started. Now it measures .331 in the front & .344 in the rear and feeds a full mag without fail. Remove a wee bit at a time until you get her to feed.

I have a Gen1 Predator in 243 and a Gen2 Standard (20" barrel) in 243. Both shoot well under moa. The Gen1 only has a two position safety and the bolt handle is prone to life when hunting which means the rifle won't fire. Gen2 has a 3 position and eliminates that issue plus it has a better looking finish and is spiral fluted. I had the Gen1 in a Magpul Hunter stock to use the AICS type mags. The Gen2 fits the Magpul Stock as well and allows me to have 6 rds. in the mag rather than the 3 in the factory mag.

I had a Ruger American Gen 2 Predator in 6mm Creedmoor. It's a great gun but jammed for me pretty frequently when cycling the bolt quickly. Might be just the way I cycled the bolt personally but make sure you're "straight in-straight out" without tilting. Or cycle slowly.

Never happened in the absence of ammo. Cartridges were getting hung up about 3/4 of the way down the base. If I was using a cartridge with more taper like a 243 it probably won't wouldn't have happened for me.

I got rid of the rifle. Still like the design and quality though. Your experience may be different.

I've had feed issues as well and found tuning the magazine was the fix for this rifle.

Question for anybody with more experience than me with these ruger americans. Looking online, it lists the torque spec for the stock at 60-80 in lbs. Seems awfully high to me. The non accustock savages list 35-40. Anyway ive always torqued my 2 ruger americans to 65, which is as high as my torque driver goes, and theyve shot well, but it just seems strange. Has anybody shot these guns with the action screws torqued lower, like 30-40 in lbs?

I've never actually torqued any of mine, I have 3, all shoot sub moa. I put 2 in chassis, it improved there shooting alot, 1 has a 1lb jard trigger. Was a little touchy getting it adjusted perfectly but I like it alot.
