Optic choice for a 458 socom? low power scope, prism or red dot?

Hello everyone,
I got my RRA beast upper in and I am trying to decided on optics for it. It will mostly be used for deer hunting, coyote, and plinking. I have owned in the past eotechs, and acogs on other ars. The ACOG was great but sold it to a friend. The eotech was blurry to my eyes. I have had lasik and have astigmatism and it causes the dot to blur or starburst so I got rid of eotech. I cant' decided on a low power 1-4 or such scope for it or another red dot. The range of the socom I will limit to max 150-200yds. If I could find a red dot that allowed you to adjust the objective to sharpen up the dot I would probably go that way. What do you guys think? I really don't want to spend more than $500 for the optic. Would love to hear your experiences and opinions.
Thanks
Jon

I'd go with a 1x4 with an Illuminated Dot reticle. On 1x you can use it like a red dot and still have some X's for longer range work. Most companies make one. I have àn Elite 4200 and love it the only problem is the dot is too bright for true night work but works great if there is any daylight at all. I have a couple of 1.5x6's, Alpen and Bushnell Trophy that the dot will turn down to barely glowing that work better in the dark. The Trophy glass leaves a little to be desired, fisheye around the edges but is quite useàble for coyote hunting.

I had a Leupold 1.5-5 with an illuminated dot inside a circle on a Marlin .444, took it because I kept popping myself in the head with it on recoil. My dad ended up putting it on his AR and loves it. It was a great scope, good clear glass, and the illumination had multiple setting with an off between each one. Great scope.

Depends on how far you're shooting and what you want to hit. I run 12x and 14x scopes on my 45-70's, roughly equivalent to the 458Soc. Nikon Buckmaster 4.5-14x40mm is what my wife runs on her 45-70, mine has a 4-12x44mm right now. We shoot ours to 300yrds regularly. No reason you can't replicate that with the 458.
