Optics for my AR

Looking for a solid optics for my AR that will be good out to around 300 yds. All ideas will be very much appreciated and don't need night vision capabilities. Just calling dogs out here in the wide open sandhills.

i mostly have Burris optics. very clear and the pick up alot of light at dusk and dawn. i like the ballistic plex retical so i dont have to worry about holdover.

I've gone with Nikon or Simmons. Both have clear glass and hold zero. $160 for a 3-9x40 @ WallyWorld for the Nikon. Simmons at Bass, Sportsman's etc. for a little less $$.

Look at the Leupold VX-R's. They are nice scopes. I have the Patrol. It is plenty to 300. I shoot 300 all the time with it on targets and paper.

I have the coyote special 4.5-14x40 on mine works pretty good first circle 200yrds second circle 300 yrds and third circle 375 yards!!!!

Just put my second Weaver V-Classic 4-16x42 on another AR,..couldn't be happier with it for the money spent.

I have to second this. My Coyote Special has worked perfectly. I also use Nikkon's 'SpotOn' Bullet drop calculator from their website, I also got their mobile app for my phone. Very cool.

More important question, what's your price range?

For calling rifles, I like big tubes, and big objectives. A 44mm, 50mm, and 56mm objectives will capture a lot of light, and bring in a bigger field of view so you can see what you're looking at.

For coyote hunting, side focus is dang handy, but adjustable objectives can work just fine, just a little slower and a little more movement to hide.

300yrds isn't that far, but I'd still be looking in the 12-24x top end magnification (i.e. 4-16x, 4.5-14x, 5-15x, 6-18x, 6-24x, 5.5-22x, 6.5-20x, etc).

So, then you have to look at price range.

In the $200 range, maybe a bushnell banner. Great light transmission, clear optics. There are a few Weaver and Millet scopes in this ball park.

$200-300 ballpark I'd be looking Bushnell Elite or Nikon Buckmasters.

A great scope in the $400-500 ballpark is Nikon Monarch, some Bushnell Elite's, and Vortex Viper (standard).

Around $1000, Bushnell Elite 4.5-30x50mm is fantastic, Monarch high mags, Leupold VX-3 LRT's.

Around $2000, you're getting into Nightforce NXS territory.

Personally, I just picked up a Vortex Viper 6.5-20x50mm from Midway for $460. Great scope so far. Think I'll be getting another one in 4-16x50 for my deer rifle. No, they aint anywhere near my NF NXS 5.5-22x56, but for I can buy 4 of these VV's before I spent as much as one NXS, and for hunting, they sure work.

I use a Swarovski AV 4-12x50mm. It is what would be the Z3 now. They are real light, and I have been very happy with it on my R-15. My hunting buddy has since changed his Nikon Coyote Special on his gun to this same scope. It was literally the difference between "night and day." He was happy with the Nikon during the day, but it wasn't cutting it at night. You can pick one up for less than $1,000. You will be very happy.

I have both of the coyote specials on two of mine and a trijicon acog on another and all three do the job the specials are a lot cheaper and if you want to go cheaper yet natchez has refurbished ones that a couple of buddies got and they haven't had any problems with them.

I have a M223 on one of my guns. It works well, but I like the Coyote Special better.

I'm going to go against the grain and recommend 1-4 power scope (especially if you don't carry a shotgun with you). I think I have missed more coyotes from having to much scope rather than not enough scope.

If you have a shotgun for up and close I would max out around 7-9 power on the top end.

This.

I have a Leupold Mark 4 3.5-10x40 TMR ILL reticle....I really like it too.

That's if you want to spend a little more, IMHO it's worth it to pay once for good glass. I have a few Burris scopes, but the Leupold is far better.

There is a guy selling a NF scope 1-4x24 for 850.00, that's as cheap as I've ever seen one. Well worth the money. I have 2 of the NF scopes and they are clear all day long...
