Optics Markup

Until recently, I had no idea that there was the type of markup in riflescopes that there actually is. I have been looking and reading and asking questions until my head hurts. I have been looking at several different brands, and like anyone, I have been trying to find the best deal for my money.

I have run across some really good deals and have thought to myself, wow, that's a pretty good incentive for "x" company to offer. Then I turn around a see a deal that the same "x" company offers another individual and I find myself a little frustrated. I shouldn't be, but I can't help it. Any deal other than retail is appreciated, so I should just be thankful.

It all just made me realize that we all pay WAY too much for scopes! I'm apparently in the wrong profession! Well I guess I just needed to rant for a minute. Back to my scope research.....

Optics are all set on a MAP pricing model. The "great deals" are cut direct from the manufacturer. The mark-up comes from the optics manufacturer and not the retailer.

Also, most of these "close-out" type deals are sold at a loss to the manufacturer...but it is a necessary evil to clear warehouse space.

I would have to disagree that scopes having a high mark up. The margins are very low compared to other products. At these from the manufacture/distributor pricing to retail.

We here in the good 'ol USA pay less than one half of what optics cost in most other countries. Want a deal? buy one of the $100 off VX3's

I'm seeing deals of 60% or better straight from manufacturers, (off of Manufacturers Asking Price of course, not actual dealer retail prices) and not on close out or old inventory.... I would love some deals like that, but that is not the type I'm finding for myself.

Local stores her mark UP from msrp quite a bit. People who buy local pay WAY more than internet orders.

A while back I wanted a Nikon Buckmasters scope. The going price on the internet was $300-$350. The local gun store price was $499. Same exact scope. I asked if they could come down on the price and was told if I don't like the prices I can leave. **** them, I left and I'll never buy anything from them.
