Optics Planet and me....

Just a bit of a rant.... but the problem such that it is, is my fault.....

Ordered a Zeiss Terra 3x 4-12x50mm scope for my new build 17 Fireball last night. Thought this would be some great glass for this outfit as I am likely not going to shoot it much over 250 yds or so, with the minor possibility of a 300 yd once in a great while. Got the RZ8 rec. Love Zeiss scopes. So I am a happy camper as I place my order and realize there is a 10% additional discount promo on the scope so I check out with PayPal..... Bam... I find I am being charged 9.75% IL Sales Tax so my 10% extra discount does almost nothing.

I know, my bad for not checking on the fact that OP is located in Illinois..... so, yup... sales tax.... [beeep] that [beeep] me off.....

I think these on line places should have to provide their operational locations to buyers. Truthfully, If I had known I would have had it shipped to a friend 30 minutes away in KY and saved the tax and got the extra discount which was $46.00 by the way.

Just my rant..... Done now.

glad you got that rant of you chest. but it is not hard to find where optics planet is located. took about 20 seconds to find this on their site.

"One of the advantages of shopping with OpticsPlanet is that we do not charge sales tax on orders shipping outside of Illinois. As required by law, sales tax is applied to all purchases shipping to an Illinois address at the local rate of 9.75%. If your order is subject to Illinois sales tax, we will notify you at the time of purchase with the exact amount prior to processing any charges and OpticsPlanet will withhold the applicable sales tax.

Please use the chart below to see how sales tax will apply to your order:"

I'm not sure how this would fall on OP, seems more of an oversight on your part.

My issue with them is their horrible inventory system.

As I said in my original post... MY BAD..... "but the problem such that it is, is my fault" .....just needed to rant about it.....

Send it back for a refund. Reorder and send to Kentucky. You save enough to buy some more bullets and primers.

I like optics planet but I can't stand their shipping. I order 2 scopes from them on the 17th of this month. I live roughly 4hrs away. The funny thing is that it went to Wisconsin then to Kansas via fedex and now it left Kansas to head to me via USPS. So if they were going to mail it to me why in the heck didn't they just sent it that way in the 1st place. Don't get me wrong there are other online companies that have just as messed up shipping routes. But I just thought it was funny the path that it takes to get a package to someone 4hrs away.

Been that way a long time, now. If they have a store in the state you live, you get charged tax.

That has nothing to do with Optics Planet. The shipping paths are determined by the shipping company, not the shipper.

760 I understand that. But I thought it was funny to see how the optics will get to me. I had one order from midway that was just about as bad. It is kid of like watch national lampoons vacation when they are planning their route to wally world. Bouncing all over the country.

You should see some the commercial airlines routes flying out of our little regional airport here. Go around your elbow to get to your hind end, it seems.
