Oregon deer hunt?

5 points for Oregon deer this year. Looking for a good trophy deer rifle unit.
Anybody out there hunted the Eagle Cap Wilderness or Steens in the last couple years?
How was your hunt?

Ahunter, I would look at the eagle cap area really hard. Spent the last 25 years in the steens area and the deer and trophy buck are very very few and very far between. Good luck

hdwolfer,
Thanks for responding. Have you drawn the Steens deer tag before, did you have a hard time finding a good buck in there.
Oregon fish and game is still touting the Steens as possibly the best unit in Oregon for a trophy even while admitting there are few deer.
I am beginning to wonder if it is like the SE Idaho units where they try to get all the out of staters to go even though the hunting there is crap compared to other parts of the state.

Have been in Hells canyon in Jan and looking across into oregon and seeing deer that look like xmas trees that is were I'd be. Having been from the east side of the steens to idaho border and to the nevada border and not seeing any bucks except around hay fields and they are 2 and 3 points only, I'd take a close look at the eagle caps tuffer hunting but you might just find what you are looking for.

AHunter,
I'd check into a desolation buck tag for a high country muley buck. Last hunting season my friend, brother and I saw some nice 32" wide muley bucks during archery season. I know they are there during rifle season but are a little harder to find sometimes.

Thanks for the responses I think I will put in for one of the Eagle Cap units or Snake River.
I live pretty close by so can scout whichever I pick this summer.
Maybe I can get my friend who has a jetboat to go with me and we can hunt deer in the mornings and fish in the afternoons.
