swift one, I take it you don't get it. What he's trying to say is barbless hooks on coyotes.....get it? You know,.....catch and release coyotes... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I'm not sure exactly what he's alluding to. I've heard of people taking a large treble hook and placing a piece of meat on it, then wiring it high enough that a coyote would have to jump just a bit to grab the meat, thus catching themselves by their own weight. They hang there until the dude comes along and dispatches them, or they starve, or become a victim of something else that may happen on to them. I've heard of doing the same thing for wild turkeys, using corn and wiring the smaller hooks to the bases of trees by a small bait pile of corn.

In my opinion, if someone is caught doing this crap, I'd guess about 3 days hanging from a treble hook imbedded someplace very, very, uncomfortable on their own anatomy, from a tree in the deep woods should just about teach the A-hole a decent lesson. If there is a second offense, then there should be a method in place to ensure there would never be a third problem! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

GC, I don't think this is what was ment in the post. What you're talking about is a different thing all together and I think most folks would agree.

what i meant was we have too many laws.
barbless hooks apply to fishin.
i never heard of barbless hooks till i got here.
barbless hooks to me are the epitome of stupid laws.
it was a joke about yotes and barbless
hooks.
i never meant to imply that i use hooks huntin yotes.
i put that their to get attention and see what folks thought about these stupidass laws.
i must say though that yotes torture their prey all the time.
i watched a yote(10years ago) eat the hind quarters off a live doe stuck in the snow.
we were at work in a huge field and we could hear that doe bleatin from 500 yds away. snow was 6ft deep.
was pathetic to watch and hear.
when we finally got to the doe about 30 minutes later about 20 pounds of meat was gone and there was no damage to neck/head area. she was eaten alive cause she was too big for yote to kill.

Fill us in, Im always up for a new trick. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

The only reason I have ever heard of hooks being used is while snaring to help aid the snare. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Ric you worry me. Well, it's not you that worries me. It worries me that when you posted the heading to the topic I knew exactly what you meant. You just made it obvious. Welcome to the fallout of "Portland county" voting.

I'm not sure exactly what he's alluding to.
Danny, I couldn't tell what direction the post was going to take. That's why I began with the quote above.

ric,
I don't think that coyotes knowingly and with forethought torture prey. They eat to survive and are programmed by nature to do so. In fact, your statement,
she was eaten alive cause she was too big for yote to kill.
, pretty much tells the tale regarding that situation. In a hard winter why waste energy struggling to kill a large prey animal that might injure the coyote when the prey was disabled and allowed the coyote to feed with no risk or energy expended? I'm not busting your chops on everything you say, nor trying to start an arguement, this is just my take on that situation. This for discussion sake.

Ric was refering to the sport fishing regulations for salmon fishing in Oregon and across the state line in Washington as well.

I think CG has the right thoughts on the coyote eating the other animal alive. As humans we generally have in our posession when hunting a weapon capable of killing our pray without fuss and we should do so. If someone was to use wire and a hook to catch a coyote or fox then they should be strung up for doing so. This is cruel and shouldnt be tolorated.

i am tryin to highlight the fact that we have too many silly huntin regs and rules.
no dogs. no elec decoy.only i deer. can hunt here- cant hunt there. costs of license are criminal. can't nite hunt. can spotlight but can't have any type of weapon. indians can night hunt-other races can't. use this caliber-can't use that caliber. short crow season. even have laws on type of broadhead that is illegal.
last year couldn't have a pistol while bowhunting.
now ou can.
these laws go on and on. they don't stop.
everytime i go afield i break some stupidass
pinko commy reg.

and we the people just sit here and take it.
makes me sick that we don't revolt against all this control.

We have many of the same laws in Wisconsin. The problem with many is that they are open to some interpretation. What I do is email the dnr and take a copy of their answer with me in the field.

The main problem is they have the attitude that everyone is a violator, all they have to do is figure out what it is. My brother in law went to school(college) with a warden and that is what he was told.

So much for innocent until proven guilty. It's getting to the point that you need a briefcase or camo backpack to carry the regs around. You should see our trout fishing regs.5 or 6 classes of trout water, limits different on each one,and one has different limits according to which water it's on.If you fish different waters you need to check the regs everytime, because you cant keep them straight in your head half the time.

If you think that's bad, try owning firearms in the Republic of Kalifornia. I firmly believe it is impossible to travel from point A to point B in this state with a firearm in your vehicle and not be in violation of at least one law somewhere along the way.

davr,

i have heard about your ca gun laws.

a friend got in trouble in ca with a pistol in his p/u truck. they took it from him and fined him.

when will we get enough?
