there was a post a couple of weeks ago where someone posted about a book/plan for getting rid of debt. i cant find it.
anyone remember? i keep thinking larry burkett(sp), but maybe not.

I would also recomend doign Dave Ramsey. Find a church near by offering hte course. IT really ahs helped me and my wife. In 8 months we have paid off $12,000. We also have a good savings plan and some retirement set up. Take the course, there is something about accountability that makes it work better.

I don't know anything about the post you are referring to, but I know some about the Burkett plan but would HIGHLY recommend Dave Ramsey. DaveRamsey.com

You don't HAVE to buy anything to understand and work his plan and its idiot proof if you follow it... it's some what radical but everyone I know, including myself, that has been through it, is not very stressed about the economy right now... he has a syndicated radio show that plays in most major cities on the AM dial or you can stream through his website.

When I was 18 (5 years ago) I was up to about $20,000 in debt, including my truck, and now I've been 100% debt free for about 15 months now, and it's a VERY different feeling if I wake up and a job cancels on me (I'm self employed)... All I have to worry about is utilities and rent and food. No credit cards, mortgage, lenders of any kind, etc that are going to start calling... I get to put a lot of my checks right into retirement (and hunting trips! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif )

Being out of debt is really great. I'll echo pd busters thoughts on that. I'm retired now, but no credit cards, no house payments and no car payments. Utilities and taxes are it. It's a wonderful place to be even if my rigs are a little older.

My wife & I are going through a Dave Ramsey class at church right now. We're on our 5th week.

I must say that it was been well worth our time. It has helped my wife & me to finally agree about finances. Most of it is common sense but it still helps to go through the class.

Good luck,
I hope you get a lot from it.

Good for you! I have a niece and nephew that went through the Dave Ramsey program and are back on their feet now!

I was a banker for 28 years, and spent 24 years in the lending and management side of banks.

I have seen what out of control debt does to marriages, people's health, and more important, folk's state of mind.

I have been threatened with my life, and had a guy sit in front of me and tell me he was going to go home and make sure my loan got paid in the next hour, as the suicide provision was up on the life insurance policy that was additional collateral on the loan....

I was fortunate enough to be raised with parents that grew up during the depression that pounded conservative money management into my head at an early age.

I think that basic money management and fiscal responsibility should be a required subject in school.

Regards,

Tim
