outlaw decoys

Are the new outlaw rabbit silhouettes worth considering, or would it be a waste of time? I figgered maybe they'd be more versatile if they were cottontails, but oh well. I was wondering also if their lack of fur or feathers to move in the wind would make them any less effective. Otherwise looks good for the money and always nice to see a photo realistic deke for anything besides waterfowl. Any comments would be nice. Thanks,
Jon

Jon,
I havn't seen the decoy you mention, not yet anyway. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif I will move your question to the predator hunting forum where it should enjoy better attention. By the way Jon, Welcome to predator masters!!!

www.outlaw.com look for misc. decoys in the hunting section. Rich, thanks for moving me.I couldnt decide whether it would be better here or not. I figured the hand callers would know a bit about decoys though.

I will be ordering one on thursday, I haven't had a decoy work real well yet but i'm always curious to see if i can get one to /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif work!

There's always one trick to make any decoy work. Add motion. A turkey feather or a thin strip of rabbit fur dangling from a piece of mono that will catch the slightest breeze will also catch the sharp eyes of any inquisitive coyote. Try it!

NASA is right on, a really effective decoy needs to have motion.

Heres a question for ya.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

What if the coyote comes from a different angle ? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Are you going to need 4 to 8 of these things facing multiple directions or ? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

This is what I did. I went to WallyMart and picked up a couple BUMBLE BALLS from ERTL, about 5-6 bucks each. Try www.rcertl.com they take AA batteries. I then went to the fabric store and purchased a yard of fake rabbit fur. My wife sewed up a small bag/pouch thing out of the fake fur and I placed one of the BUMBLE BALLS inside.

I used some tye wraps to hold everything together. Be sure you put the push on/pull off switch at the opening of the bag for easy access.

I just sit it out next to my caller and turn it on and let it bounce around.

Had one yote come in and just stand there and look at it for awhile before he was chased off by a non sighted in 308. OOOOOPPS!

One really confused coyote. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
First he sees one rabbit..then he moves to the right and sees 3 rabbits...then moves forward and left behind a bush and sees 1 rabbit..
I hunt waterfowl and using silouettes with predators is a whole different thing.
The coyote would probally think hes eyes were messed up..lol

This new decoy sounds like it may work... On hunters.

A predator would have to come in just perfectly to see it. Movement is a must. Too many vaiables there.

I'd stick with the predator enticer. Bottom line best decoy available.

I have seen the enticer work, and I know it is the best, but I dont have 40 bucks right now... so, I was wondering if this cheaper deke would work ok. Right now, all I'm doing is draping a rabbit fur over my e-call speaker, and I havent been able to tell if it helps or not because I havent taken it hunting. Also, I'm thinking about making a poor mans enticer w/o a motor, by putting feathers on a rabbits foot and hanging it by a length of fishing off of some heavy gauge camo painted wire. Whaddya think, would that be better than the fur on the speaker idea???hehe.

Heres a thought. What about sticking one of these decoyy on the Enticer? Keep the feature ball and spring dingus in place but add the silouette decoy thingy centered over and rotated by the motor. You'd get random motion, wild action and something that looks like a pray animal. Probably to big for the motor but with the correct sized decoy ....... hmmmmmmm ........ well maybe it would work.

AlphaDog - I don't think that it would be very difficult to work out. The Enticer drive unit is simple enough and it would not be difficult to come up with a way to stick a flat Silhouette to the top of it. It probably would not wok but maybe worth a try.

The Enticer just doenst work well with Items of ANY weight attached to it. Ostrich Feathers and very very lightweight "fluffy" things are about all it can handle. Otherwise the shaft just rotates inside the foam disk and the movement is shot to hell.

When I first got mine I tried a small bundle of wing feathers I got at the Arts and Craps Shoppe and that I taped together and it just didnt work worth a darn. The feather bundles the Enticer comes with are still the best item I have tried for over all "Enticing" motion.

Besides even if it did work that cardboard would go "clunk and thunk" when it hit stuff.

I have absolutely no desire to try this sort of setup. But if your one of those that feels that a decoy actually needs to look like something real. then this could be an interesting thing to play with.
