OverPriced, piece of crap NIGHTForcE scopeS!

I know a female AR Comp shooter that has won championships @ 1000 yards with open sights....her name is Dr. Paula Crenshaw....that's right, 10 football fields with open sights....Since most coyotes are shot within 100 yards, I don't see the need for a $2000 scope....I don't think the yotes care what you shoot them with or what type of optics are used....A $300 rifle with a $200 scope will kill em just as dead.....JMO, bash on.....

What does a COMPETITIVE shooter, resting on a bench shooting at a 4' in diameter bullseye have to do with optics for coyote hunting? That's great shooting on her part but that peep sight isin't going to work on a coyote at 300 yards in 10 minutes of shooting light left for coyote hunting. Also, I don't know where you hunt or live but we consistently kill coyotes at 200-300 yards here in va and most of our shots are not 100 yards.

Ha Ha, I was thinking the exact same thing. Good luck with those peep sights when the lights go out too. I do agree that you don't "need" a $2000 scope to kill coyotes though, but they sure are nice.

I have never so much as raised an eyebrow at this guys stuff. He lives within a few miles of me, and I'm just not impressed. He means well and is a very nice guy, but I'd say the reliability of his work is about like Wikipedia.

I more or less posted the link for people to filter through the mechanics and optical quality of the different scopes. There was some great optical equipment used for testing and maybe the guy is biased towards one brand over the other idk... but the bottom line is the op was comparing a vxiii to a nf and I own 4 leupold vxiii scopes and a nf atacr along with other quality scopes. If anyone thinks a vxiii is in the same league as a nf in glass, tracking, reticles, build, finish, etc., they are plum crazy. For the money the vxiii is ok scope but there are other options out there that are cheaper and have the same quality. Now a mark 8 is a different story, and so is the price. It still holds true, you get what you pay for. If someone is even considering a scope in the price category of a nf, Swaro, uso, high end leupy, etc., why would you even look at a lesser grade scope, obviously you have the money to get the best and are entertaining getting one. Just my .02

HOG SLOP!!!!!! This idiot assigns only 35% of the scopes importance in the optics???? He's kidding us right???? 40% on mechanics???? The rest on "ergonomics" and "other features"....the toy factor gets the most importance???? Even if you do only shoot targets in broad daylight these numbers are still bad.

I buy a hunting scope for what I can see thru it. Not for the ease of playing with the knobs, bells and whistles.

Change his importance around to 85% optics, 15% "neato torpedo toy factor" and you get an entirely different line up.

Hillary Clinton should have had this dude on her campaign trail....he could have made even her look better!!!!!

These aren't hunting scopes sir and where you don't feel the "toy factor" is important, to a precision rifle shooter those mechanical bells and whistles are worth more than glass in certain cases. Maybe read where the BLOG came from next time before flipping out over "hunting" scopes.

The "blog", ridiculous as it is, is NOT what this forum or thread is about...before you flip out try going back to post #1 and reading it, then take a look at calicoyotehunter's location..."HUNTING"
Furthermore, before you flip out...I own more toy factor enhanced scopes than most people...MST-100, Premier Heritage, S&B PMII {that happens to have USMC on it}, among several others like a FLIR thermal and two different 3rd gen NV weaponsights. The toy factor rates pretty high with me, I spent more money on it than most people do on their trucks...but the simple fact is that toys are for one thing...playing. The biggest difference between me and most guys that cry on these type threads is that I am no ones fanboy.

I dunno, I have plenty of things I don't "need", but I wanted. Extreme high quality/priced scopes are something I don't invest in. I am perfectly happy with a Leupold VX3, or my SWFA SS scopes. I have a friend that swears by the S&B's, Premieres, etc... His money, his priorities. He gets a lot more coyotes than I do. He has better scopes, I have more and better rifles. Different priorities.

I drive a 2008 Tahoe, another friend drives a $50-60,000 Ford pickup. Different wants and needs I guess.

I wonder if the OP was looking through a SHV, ATACR, NXX, ??? I have five NF scopes at the present. Only one is on a hunting rifle. I don't shoot past 600 yards at big game so the NightForce NXS is coming off and being replaced by a lighter and less expensive SHV. FWIW, I have a NightForce SHV on my coyote rifle, but I would never put a NXS, etc. on a coyote gun even if I had one laying on top of my safe (which I do) just because of the weight.

4-14 SHV f1 is my personal favorite scope out of all my glass. Absolutly amazed with the low light clarity, and accurate tracking of the turrets. LOVE that is has a capped windage feature, love the zero stop, and the MOAR reticle is amazing as well. best $1200 ive spend regarding optics.

Always amazes me how someone can look at several scopes in succession and come up with a conclusion as to which is best. Conclusions based on a sample of one is Human nature.
Differences in individual eyesight also affect ones perception of an optic. Different peoples eyesight affects what they see thru a scope. Optics need to be fitted to the user just like shoes.
A scope can have clear glass but lack resolution. Way more to it than just looking thru a couple of scopes and saying one is better than another.
Optics is a very competitve market with lots of players. In that type of market, price is usually a very good indicator of quality of components, tolerances, production processes and assembly detail.
No matter, I would rather be shooting and hunting cheap components than not be hunting at all.
