Owls

Has anyone ever tried incorporating owl sounds in with their calling? I called in 3 big talkative ones tonight and got to thinking that it might be a good way to put the slip on some wiley predators.

I know it's probably not necessary 99% of the time, but it's a change up.

Any thoughts?

I use crow and owl fight for calling crows.
I have a couple of rabbit distress mixed with crow sounds I use for coyote hunting. The jury is still out on that though.
Mixing owl and rabbit distress is at the very least an interesting idea.

A owl is a predator ,so owl with distress sounds might have a yote thinking a owl is stealing his meal. You also might call in a very mad owl,so be careful

I don't have any owl sounds on my ecaller, however, at some sets when I am using distress sounds they will come in and buzz the caller and either land close to it on the ground or in a nearby tree and make some screeching sounds. I'm sure this is probably attractive to other predators so I don't mind listening to them. Several times after howling I've noticed some owls will let out a very loud scream that for a moment makes me think it is a coyote howl. Kevin

had a screech owl try to take my head off last night while doing some lip squeaking. I had the same thought, haven't tried it with owl sounds only hawk screams during the day. So far no luck. I would think that it would work.

Had 1fly by and knock my tripod over. When an owl flys by or comes in, I've never had a coyote come in...now that I think about it. Anyone else had a yote come in when an owl is near?

Read an article in Outdoor Life years ago that stated that more people are killed in the US by owls than are struck by lightning. It told how many but it's been too long for me to remember.

had a great horned owl lay the smack down on my sitfire and foxjack earlier tonight. Then it proceeded to just hang around in different spots for about 45 min til I finished the stand. pretty neat, big dang bird.
