PA Bobcat Tags?

Also Beagler if you happen to get one, I'll let ya know of some spots up here where there's a couple cats /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Definitely. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif If I was lucky enough to draw one I'd have to see if I could get in contact with any area houndsmen. I dabble in trapping and wouldn't mind trying that option as well. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Beagler,

Did the rule change this year? In the past you were only allowed to Trap bobcats with the permit, No calling, No hounds.

Just wondering if they changed the rule.

Hey Beagler, I also found a hound or two my buddy will run for us. He has coonhounds but a good friend of his from NY has some cat dogs he can use at his dispense.
They have some good dogs and get the most number of coyotes up here out of anyone. I've only coon hunted with him, but have taken him out calling a bunch of times. He isnt into the calling too much because the hounds have him spoiled /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Of course I'm a NOOB predator caller and only put a few fox in front of him, no coyotes yet.
I still havent gotten my license, I'm picking it up tomorrow after I get tires for the wifes car.

take care Vic

silencerS8,
I just may have to take you up on that offer. Best of luck drawing a tag as well. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif I talked to another individual on a PA site who told me he takes guys out with his hounds here in PA. He said he gets $500 if you kill a cat /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif. I forget how much if you don't. Seems kinda high. I heard if you draw a tag the PGC sends you a list of guides as well. This is my first time applying for a tag.

Man thats a good sized cat in them pics. Good Luck, hope you get the draw this year.
This is my second year sending in, I know of a couple cats up here in Susquehanna County.

I think we are going to be good friends if I draw a tag. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Yes Beagler. Ive also applied. I have several spots in Wayne Co. that I've bumped into cats hunting other things. And one spot over by you. The population just keeps going up, so the hard part seems to get a tag. I plan on calling, but if push comes to shove I have a few old traps around from when i was younger. Good luck to all of you on your tags.

Well your welcome to give it a shot, even if you dont get a tag, to come along for fox and coyotes. I think in the next week i will be putting out some trail cams along a swap Me and my partner bowhunt. I know theres some cats, fox, coyotes, and bear around there cause ive seen them all while hunting there. Never got a cat on a trail cam, but i may have some old trapping tricks that may get one infront of the camera.

The first year tags were offered, dont know how long ago, 5 or 6 years ago i guess maybe. I didnt get picked. Had a cat the last week of archery pass less than 10 yards from the base of the tree my stand was in. I could have pinned him to the ground with my eyes closed. Would be nice to get one with a bow.

If the game commission keeps drawing tags for the same people thats already drawed tags since the program began,we might not live old enough to draw one.My cousin has drawed two tags since the tag drawing began and i have drawed zit.Does this seem to be fair,or is something crooked here? I know two guys with the same last name in fayette county that got tags.I think this tag drawing needs to stop and open the season for all hunters holding a fur takers license. If they are not going to be honest and fair, shut it down or open it up to all.

Sorry guys, but the way they are handling it,it ticks me off. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angry-smiley-055.gif

Pg. 86 of the PA Hunting and Trapping Digest
Individuals who received a bobcat harvest permit last year are not eligible to apply during the 2006-07 season.

Its just the luck of the draw.
If one waits and sends in the 2008-2009 season its fair game. Persons with the last same name really shouldnt matter, just like any other application, they're different persons, maybe related, but different persons.

Seems fair to me unless someone is creating a fake alias and address.

If so they would also have to buy another furtakers license.

If you give them your SS# they will add your name to the hat an extra time for each year you applied but did not get drawn.
I sent mine again. So my name will be in once for that and I gave them my SS# so it will also be added 4 more times, so I now have 5 chances. I did not send in last year.

Good luck

The key is you gotta play to win! some years ive applied some i havent. I need to force myself to apply ever year. The points system is a good idea. And whats the couple bucks to apply? It seems the years i do apply i dont see many cats so the next year i dont bother. then that year i have to beat them off with a stick. but thats how things work for me.

yote tote, I just dont know. if everyone got a tag then the Game Commission looses the extra income, we all know they do need. And we run the risk of an over harvest, and a closed season on cats for the next 15 years. who knows what the best solution is? but how it is now with the drawing, and the new points system, its as good as any of the other options to manage this resource.
