The 720 permits will be selected during a computerized drawing, which will be open to the public, on Friday, Sept. 8, at the agency's headquarters, 2001 Elmerton Avenue, Harrisburg. Those selected will receive their bobcat permit by U.S. mail in early October.

720's a good number /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Still keeping my fingers crossed /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm curious as to how many applications they receive? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif
And if they are drawing tags as early as two weeks from now I would have wished they could notify the guys sooner who drew so they could make plans to hunt/trap the elusive critters.

Last year there was 4,200 applicants with 615 available. Only 196cats were taken, 124 female, 70 male, 2 unidentified.

I'd bet it would be around the same, I'll keep my eyes open.

the pgc stated last year that if everyone that sent in a app without bonus points the chance in getting one is 1to 7 so if you have bonus points then the odds get better.

I do know one thing, if I get the draw archery season will be placed on the back burner and most of all my hunting will focus on a cat untill I fill the permit. A co-worker spotted one crossing his property where I already have permission archery hunt, I asked if I could hunt the cat too ... "no problem as long as my wife dont find out if you get it". These cool nights have got me all worked up /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I've heard about and talked to people who claim they seen a cougar in this state.I talked to forestry workers, hunters, close friends and even my son who claims to have seen one.In my 50 something odd years in the woods,i've never seen so much as a track and i'm in the woods year around. If someone said they seen a bobcat 45-50 lbs. i would be more inclined to believe them.Sometimes i wonder if this might be the case and they took them as a mountain lion.We do have some very large bobcats in the east, but even those are rare.

ROCKEY,did you see the tail and color of this animal?

The largest bobcat I've personally seen had the muscle tone and size of a rotweiler. Almost hit it with the wifes car near the NY state line outside Sherman PA. It was impressive, beautiful spots and the hole nine yards. A few months later I almost hit another on Rt 92 that was completly tan tall and lanky, totally opposite of the other.

Just like most on here, I've hunted NEPA all my life, never seen a track or one in person. Hopefully someday I'll see or call one in, then I'll become rich and famous:)

Back to PA Bobacat Tags.. :p:p:p:p

I've hunted in PA my whole life and am willing to say I spend more time in the woods than your average individual and have never saw a bobcat or even what I thought may be a bobcat track! Even where we hunt hare. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif Hopefully that will change /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowingsmilie.gif.

beagler,in the central and western part of the state has lots of bobcats, some counties more than others.I would venture to say, there are enough bobcats within a 30 mile circle from where i live to fill 1/4 of the tags that are drawn and never hurt the population.
