PA HUNTERS

I'VE BEEN HUNTING ABOUT 3 NIGHTS A WEEK SINCE RIFLE SEASON ENDED AND ALL I'VE CALLED IN WAS 1 GREY, 2 REDS, AND 1 BOBCAT. LAST YEAR I WENT TO POTTER FOR THE COYOTE HUNT AND I CALLED IN 4 GREYS AND 1 COYOTE IN 2 NIGHTS. I'VE BEEN USING COVER SCENT, WATCHING THE WIND AS BEST AS I CAN, I ONLY HUNT THE SAME AREA ABOUT EVERY OTHER WEEK, AND I TRY SEVERAL DIFFERENT SOUNDS. WHAT IS MY PROBLEM? IS IT THE WEATHER? IS IT A BAD YEAR FOR THE FOX? I WAS JUST WONDERING HOW THE REST OF THE PA HUNTERS ARE DOING. I HAVE AN FX3 AND I USE A BANDIT 21 VOLT BELT LIGHT WITH RED AND OR BLUE FILTER LENS. I'M GETTING VERY DISCURIGED.

red, where at in pa? things seem slow just about everywhere.... I hit the greys early season and it has been really slow now here.... I am near philipsburg/clearfield area dont let up... as stated in one of the other posts something has to give... sooner or later /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

I'M IN FAYETTE COUNTY. GREYS ARE USUALLY ABUNDANT HERE, BUT THIS YEAR IS BAD. MAYBE WE'LL GET SOME SNOW THAT WILL STICK SOON. I THINK THAT MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE. I'M GONNA HIT EM HARD TONIGHT. I USUALLY DO MY FIRST SET AROUND 7 OR 8pm. I THINK I'LL WAIT TIL ABOUT 11 OR 12 TONIGHT. MAYBE THAT WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

Been slow for me as well in Armstrong Co. I think the weather has alot to do with it. I don't think they're as hungry as they usually are by now.

REDINPA,thats an easy question for me to answere.I live in fayette and done kilt most of them.LOL Just kidding.I was out scouting two days ago and seen five different set of coyote tracks and the same number of fox tracks.Four were grey fox and one was a red.I will be hitting the mountains in a couple days.I hope we ain't calling the same animals?....Good luck!

Your not the guy from down along 982 are ya?

LIKE I SAID THE MOST I HUNT ANY AREA IS ONCE A WEEK AND IF I CALL SOMETHING IN I WON'T HUNT THAT AREA AGAIN FOR AT LEAST 3 OR 4 WEEKS.

Fox population has DRAMATICALLY declined over the last few years in my area. I have a very hard time just seeing a set of eyes anymore /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif. Two causes in my opinion. Distemper went through and really did a number on the grey fox population a few years back and it seemed they never rebounded. The second being the increase in the coyote population. Simply put they are killing the fox.

Do i know where C'VILLE is? Sound familiar? Get the crap out of my back yard!!LOL My brother works at Anchor. My wifes cousin who is the,Ohiopyle Park Ranger, lives on the south side.I went to my Dr. there yesterday.Yep,i know C'VILLE.

I WENT OUT LAST NIGHT MADE 4 SETS IN NEW TERRITORY IN SOMERSET. I THOUGHT IT MIGHT HELP GOING TO THE BIGGER WOODS. NOT.. I NEVER SEEN A SET OF EYES. I DID MAKE A KILL THOUGH. I HEARD A COUPLE COONS FIGHTIN SO I STALKED THEM AND SHOT 1. THE OTHER GOT AWAY. MAYBE THE SNOW WILL HELP. GOOD LUCK.

Havent seen a set of eyes in my last 4-5 stands.

Bringing 3 of my boys with me tonight for good luck /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Justin, right now i am waiting on the weather... if we get the high winds i am not going out at all.... i have work sat... so depending on what time i get done it may not be good... i will let you know...

I'm up here in Elk County. I was out tonight but no luck. We have about 4 inches of new snow but the wind is howling, no pun intended. I'm going out tomorrow, wind or not, but how have you guys done with hunting in the wind in past years? They have to eat sometime and I can get into some open valleys but out of the wind.

I'VE ONLY BEEN HUNTIN FOX FOR 2 YEARS, BUT I'VE CALLED IN A FEW FOX SINCE I'VE BEEN HUNTIN. I'VE CALLED IN THE WIND SEVERAL TIMES AND I DID OK. I USUALLY JUST LET THE FX3 ON THE ENTIRE TIME WHEN THE WIND IS BLOWING. BUT ANY TIME THE WIND IS REALLY GETTIN IT I JUST GIVE UP. MY PROBLEM NOW IS JUST GETTIN ENOUGH MOTIVATION TO GO BECAUSE I HAVE NOT SEEN EYES FOR MY LAST 34 SETS. UP UNTIL DECEMBER 26th I WAS SEEING EYES OR GETTING SHOOTING 1 OUT OF 4 SETS. I'M GONNA HIT EM HARD THIS WEEKEND AND IF SOMETHING DOESN'T GIVE I WILL. GOOD LUCK.
