Para Ordnance Warthawg

I used to have a P10(Warthog before they were called Warthog) I liked mine and would still own it if I didnt dislike the 1911 paltform. Relatively easy to control given its small size. never had any malfunctions except when I used an aftermarket mag. Wish they werent so pricey.

I used to have one but had to sell it in a time of need. Very sweet pistol. The only draw back would be if you had huge hands. Other than that, its one of the better high-cap compacts.

Me and a buddy both bought Para Warthogs a couple years ago and I kept mine a week and he kept his about a month. They both wouldn't reliably shoot a magazine without malfunctioning. I totaly blame these guns as between the both of us we have 14 1911s from Springfield, Kimber, Wilson, Ed Brown, Dan Wesson, and even a Taurus

yes a Taurus and its actually not that bad of a gun, not when compared to the PW anyway.

Were you shooting reloads? What were the problems you had? Did you give Para's customer service a chance to make it right before you got on the internet and bad mouthed them? It seems funny both you and your buddy have high end 45's from Wilson and Brown, you own just about every other one out there, and yet you both report trouble with the same model Para at the same time? Whats the odds?

One thing is for certain. I have run across lots of guys who have never owned a Para let alone shot one and for one reason or another they have had some preconceived notion that they were junk. Its too bad really, they make a quality product for your investment that you cant get from Kimber, Wilson, Brown, etc.

I would say the best 1911 when considering cost/quality/features is the Taurus 1911. As sated above, para's make a great product, not sure why they got a bad rap.

Para Ordnance usually produces a high quality product...but the fit and function is going to be a personal taste item on the Warthog..

I bought a P-16/40 Limited when they first came out and it is one of the more accurate 'out of the box' semi autos that I own...It also is one of the few high capacity .40s that can be easily converted to a full 10mm by just changing the barrel and recoil spring..

I looked at a Warthog, but it just didn't fit my hand the way I liked and since I was going to use in for self defense, rather than competition, I went another route..

Furhunter,
We were shooting Reloads and factory ammunition ball and HP, the failures were mostly failure to return to battery, and stove piped cases. we polished feed ramps, put in stiffer recoil springs, put in lighter recoil springs, and everything else under the sun to try to correct this. After some reading on the subject We found thet there were issues due to the double stack magazine design so we hocked them. I didnt say that I never had a problem with other 1911s in my collection just none this persistant. I have had another Para in the past but it was a single stack "gun rights" model. It shot very well I just didnt care for the huge "gun rights" lasered on the slide so I sold it. I am not bad mouthing Para as a company I'm only telling my personal experience with the Para Warthog which in MY opinion is junk. Take it or leave it.

Para mostly gets a bad rap because of internet hype about them using cast slides. They do use cast slides but I've never heard of a problem with one due to this. Like I said before, the Para 7.45 that I had shot very well and was extremely accurate.

The issues I had with both of mine sound almost the same as yours. My issue was a complete return to battery. The slide was held up about a 1/4 inch from fully closed. Turns out I had some brass head stamped "Americ" this brass was thicker around the mouth than anything else I had. That combined with the tight chamber Para uses was jamming the guns. I had the same problem on both the P-13 and P-14. When I sorted out all of that junk brass things got alot better and havnt had the problem since. They both run like a charm with both cast and jacketed bullets, round nose, flat points, wad cutters etc.. makes no difference.

Good post, furhunter....

Its amazing how many "problem" rifles and pistols can be easily fixed by someone who can diagnose problems.

Or... Maybe I should say its amazing how many folks jump on a rife or pistol right out of the chute as being the problem and they don't know how to or simply won't look for the real problems..

This problem only happened in this gun not in the other Para or any other gun all with the same ammo. Mostly it would run the nose of the bullet into the top of the chamber so it wasnt a brass issue it was a mag issue. none the less I didnt trust the gun as far as I could throw it so I sold it

-BCB I've been around the block enough to know how to fix problems with them. I invested a lot of time in trying to get this gun to run and it simply wouldn't. That's all
