Had the day off from work so I decided to spend the day at the range. Wouldn't you know it the heat index had to be 115 yesterday! I don't get the opportunity very often so I decided to just relax, pace myself and drink lots of water. After chrono'ing some test loads at 100yds in the morning I put some steel out at 300 yds and starting working my way back checking my dope and see the real world effects of wind on some of my loads and taking some notes.
My Tikka 25-06 did not like the heat at all. My pet load is pushing an 87gr. speer 3550fps. It was running 3650 today with the heat.

My AR didn't mind the heat too much but I had a terrible swirling wind that was making windage guestimates at 500 yds fun. 3 shot group at 500 yds with 75 gr Amax's.

And finally the Mosin Nagant. It's pet load uses .311 Sierra pro-hunters that will cut a ragged hole at 100yds. But, just to shoot at the range (read cheap) I loaded some 168gr (.308) Amax's. They were running about 2750 fps which is close to normal and shooting about .75" group at 100yds. The trick at 500 yds is just trying to see the target with a junk 7X scout scope. The guy at the range said, "are you kidding me? You just shot that steel at 500yds with a $79 rifle?"

Nothing serious, just having a little summer fun. Thought you guys might get a laugh out of the Mosin Nagant doing its thing.

Thanks for posting! I understand fully what you mean about a cheap rifle flat shooting lol. Last time I was at the range my buddies 770 out shot my Tikka .243. Very frustrating lol
 
looks like a lot of fun, what model and where did you get the mount for the scout scope on the Mosin. I am playing with one of my Mosins and reblued it and redoing the stock. Looks really nice now, andwant to add a scout scope.
