I stoped by a local pawn shop looking for a Savage to use as a build , they had a 110 that the trigger guard was broken the trigger was cut off and the stock well it looked like it had been used as a boat paddle . They had $389 on the tag now I know that the price of Savages has gone up in the last few years but I just foound this to be extreme, they also had a used 10 in 243 without the accutrigger for $480 they had a cheap Simmons scope with the wrong mounts on the rifle it was so low you could not even adjust the power on it . I would like to keep my money in the small town gun shops but man I can get a new 10 or 110 with the accutrigger for $ 397 at the local wallyworld I know they have to make money but this is crazy . I guess I'm wanting to know is are their good deals to be found at pawn shops ? or just say to heck with it and buy a new one ??

There are deals, just have to keep looking....and definitely not at that pawn shop. Also, dont forget, everything is negotiable. I ahve to admit Ive found more good deals on here than I have at any pawn shop.

I've yet to see a gun price in a pawn shop be anywhere close to reasonable. My counter offers would be considered an insult to most. Watch the classifieds on forums and in the weekly classified papers. Also look at auction sales on rainy days. Fair weather auction sales can be more ridiculous than pawn shops.

I have bought some good guns from pawn shops. You have to know what you are looking at cause they don't sometimes. Some models are worth more for example and they get their prices wrong. If you can deal with the owner or manager sometimes you can buy right. They normally have about 50% what they have marked in the gun around here so they can come off a lot and still make a little.I figure I can buy for 2/3 the tag price in most cases.Pawn shop have guns that have been gunsmithed by jake legs so look at the gun really close.Sometimes guns will be there cause they were pawned and not able to be picked up.Sometimes something is wrong with them.Sometimes good deals but you must be careful.

Ain't that the truth! I don't know that I've ever seen a good deal on a firearm at an acution.

I bought a Colt 1911 with a 1912 made sn from a pawn shop for $250 about 5 years ago. Deals like that keep me looking thru the pony poop

You have to be able to make an offer that is well below their sticker price. I am not a good haggler, if I see a price that is good I buy it, if not I walk. Don't get enamored with anything and cash will speak.

Pay no attention to what a price tag says in a pawn shop, get the owner on a non busy time and ask him what his lowest cash price is for the gun.

The last great deal I got at a pawnshop was in 2001 when I got a Winchester .45 Colt lever action gun that was about new as can be for $200 & 4 ruger 10/22s for $89 ea.
All the pawn shops around here are at MSRP or over it from what I see.

I bought a stainless Ruger Super Black Hawk 7 1/2" barrell, 44 mag for $350 out the door. Oh, and it had a Leupold FX II 2x scope on it!! I thought that was a pretty good deal.

My wife and myself worked with the owners of the pawn shop that I frequent for several years before they opened the shop. I get some decent deals from them from time to time. If it's for my wife, the price is usually right. I think they like her more than me. lol
I can normally get new guns for cost + $20 and pawned guns for $10 or $20 over what they have in them.
It's a Gun and Pawn and they would rather sell quick for a small profit than hold for months for big bucks.
They are the only pawn shop out of seven in the area
that is reasonable on their stuff.

Some times I just stop in, look at the price tags, just for a good laught. They don't like me much. You know that some people pay sticker and get ripped off major.

There is a pawn shop/gun shop here local that used to be very reasonable and easy to deal with. In the last couple of years there prices are so ridiculous it makes me laugh. Must make others do the same as they have cut way back on their staff. I asked about a price while back and was told their prices were already bottom dollar, they marked everything to keep the turnover moving well. I just laughed as I wiped the layers of dust off a couple of close pieces.
That said, sometimes there are some deals to be had. I picked up a 77/22 hornet for $175 a few years back, but that was from a pawn owner I know.
Anymore, I think my time too valuable to me to follow the pawnshop trail or go to gunshows. Add up the gas and time, just save it and go to a reasonable dealer and get what you want.

As you say, unless you enjoy looking and haggling the pawn shops may not be for you.I enjoy the trading. If I was shopping for something I need I don't think I would do the pawn shops for that.

Yep I was looking at a wingmaster 28g. Owner wanted 625 for it. I offered 500 and he couldn't do it cause "he had too much in it". I said well.... That's not my fault and left

I agree

If you pawnshop prices here you've got to be low on the chromosones. Last time I looked at one was 1.5x the shelf price at the lgs, and cash in hand would get tne price down to normal shelf price for new. You just had to ignore that the rifle looked like it had been used as a fence post.

Or you could get a mildly used hipoint 9mm for around 320. Its not even worth the energy it takes to glance in the case.

This one get a laugh out of everyone. A couple of years ago a guy that worked for me bought a Highpoint pistol with a $19.95 laser on it new for $499.99 Talk about getting the shaft.
