PETA Wants Punxsutawney Phil Replaced by Robot Groundhog

Animal-rights group PETA wrote to organizers of the annual Groundhog Day spectacle in Punxsutawney, PA, demanding that the live groundhog used each year be replaced by a robot.


Animal-rights group PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) wrote a Jan. 21 letter to organizers of the annual Groundhog Day spectacle in Punxsutawney, PA, demanding that the live groundhog used each year on Feb. 2 be replaced by a robotic version, USA Today reported Wednesday.

The paper showed a letter written by Gemma Vaughan, a PETA "Animals in Entertainment specialist," to Bill Deeley, president of the Inner Circle of the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club, in which Vaughan appeals to him to "make the compassionate decision to use an animatronic Phil and retire the live groundhogs who are used for Groundhog Day activities to a sanctuary."

Vaughan goes on to say that the groundhogs "become stressed when they are exposed to large, screaming crowds; flashing lights from perhaps hundreds of cameras; and human handling."

In response, Deeley told the Associated Press that Phil is kept in a climate-controlled environment, is inspected annually by the state Department of Agriculture and is "being treated better than the average child in Pennsylvania."
 
It seems that anymore none of their headlines shock me,they waste more energy on ridiculous stuff just to keep there agenda in the headlines that I think more and more people are just blowing them off when they go on their rants. If only they could focus their $ and energy on some useful stuff.
 
They should make a robot. The robot rises out of the fake hole, looks around, the PETA people praise PA, and then the robot's head splits and out comes the REAL Phil!!!

Not long ago, I read that there was discussion about the idea that the sorry performance of the IDF in their most recent military contest was low in part because of the fact that the urban rich were easily exempted from military draft/service. So easy is was that the elite considered it just stupid to play any role the the military. Therefore, the ground forces and their leadership were not at the peak of fighting efficiency because so many talented people did not wish to be thought as 'behaving stupidly' to quote one of our current military genius', so they were essentially handed a stand-off or a defeat.

Sounds pretty familiar to me as one of my own brothers earned a Less Than Honorable Discharge and the youngest was 4F due to schizophrenia.

It will be interesting to see what our combat military services come up if there is a change in current gender Policy.

If I were DOD, I would only approach this idea as a test in limited Units. Scientific approach!

I'd go for replacing them with Robots..... Just don't include the power sources and have all instructions published in Ancient Sanscript...

My sister in law is not officially PETA but one time when I trapped some mice out of her overrun kitchen, she asked "You did'nt kill them, did you?"

Her Mother thinks that when she fell off a horse and was drug along the ground some distance that she may have hit her head a few times to many because 'she never remembers the good things people do for her'.

Could be a particular part of the brain was affected as she has a number of self-destructive behaviors!

I guess I'll just have to trudge along through life trying to resolve the moral relativism out there. Like the only man on my team in South Vietnam who went to Church every Sunday when it was possible is also the only one killed and in a particularly horrible way. (Not that there ever is a truly "good way" but there is such a thing as a "million dollar wound" I guess!

I'll let you know when I get this all figured out!

V-max oughta do the the trick on a mehanical groundhog. May have to trade the delight of redmist for exploding tinker toys though....
 
:thum bup1: Hey! My crazy sister in law is very available, works for lawyers like a slave, owns her own home, excellent cook, has lots of dogs and cats but running out of room to keep them and will not donate some of her surplus cats to my wifes daughter who needs cats for her barn!


The only real issue you'd have with Michelle is her "thing" bout mouse traps that kill! You'd thought I had committed a Capital Offense when I set four in her kitchen and wiped out nearly a dozen in just two days. It might take psycho-therapy or a good butt whipping; you'd have to work that out yourself but she is a real prize if you can deal with partial crazy!

As for PETA, well I try to make some allowances for the fact that none of them have many functioning brain cells left.

Let me know if this is 'crazy'! Michelle had a boyfriend whom she rented an apt for near the law firm where she then worked. She was talking to "Paul" who told her he was making lunch for his other girlfriend who is his main drug connection! Michelle tells him she is coming over there right now with her pistol to shoot them both!

Paul not being an idiot calls OCPD and tells them what's going on and the description of Michelle and her vehicle.

Michelle was pulled over within a few blocks by a patrol unit. She bluffed them into not searching her car, but the loaded pistol was on the passengers seat under a sweater!

Is this crazy of is this only eccentric!???
