Picked up a Savage 17HMR

I have been wanting a 17HMR or 22 mag for a while now. I had a hard time making a decision but ultimately ended up with a Savage 93r17 GV (woodstock with varmint barrel). I liked the 93r in 22 mag but heard the stock was kinda flimsy and it looked like it had a low comb. I still may pick one up just as an iron site plinker, I still like the looks of them. Anyway if anyone has an experience with this model, I am all ears. Everything I have read and watched has been positive. I am probably going to put the Bushnell A17 scope on it.

Same here, shoots the 20gr XTP lights out as well.

I have had mine 10 years or more. Back when Dick's Sporting Good was not anti-gun.
They had Savage do a special run with thumbhole stocks. Nice rifle, Groundhog killer.

I shot a friends when I put a new 3x9 scope on it for him. I was impressed with the group at 100 yards. He has the thumb hole stock on his.

Two things I can tell you about mine... It prefers 20 gr over .17 gr loads and accuracy is best when it's a little dirty. I only clean it when accuracy starts to drop off and then shoot 3-4 fouling rounds through it before it goes back in the field. It's an extremely accurate gun and I love a thumb hole wood laminate stock on it.

I have an SS bull barrel version that I bought a decade ago. Very accurate, but the mags had feeding issues. Savage was good enough to replace the old mags gratis, and I hope they've resolved the mag/feeding issues in their newer versions.

I have a 93r17fv with laminated thumbhole stock. This baby will shoot. It has the heavy barrel which is blued, not stainless. It really likes the Hornady 17 Vmaxs, but likes the cci A17's a bit better, but it's not worth the extra $3/box. The only ammo I've put down it that it didn't really like was the new cci TNT yellow BT's. For whatever reason it didn't group under 2" at 100 yds. However the CCI game points (20 gr HP), Hornady 17vmaxs and 20gr HP are all right at an inch or below. The 17Vmaxs will produce 3/4" 5-shot groups most times I go to the range at 100 yds. I've shot priaire dogs out to 327 yds with them. It's awesome with a little breeze in your face. They are affected by the wind, but the prairie dogs can't hear the quiet report of the rifle, so you dope them in and eventually you connect.

The mag and hmr are notorious for feeding problems, not sure if the mags have been changed. The fix is easy though and just takes a minute. Look over at rimfire central if you have a problem. BTW we need pics...

Same here, I don't have, nor have I ever owned a Savage centerfire, but I have a few of their rimfire rifles and they've all been pretty decent little shooters.
