Pigeons * PICS *

Hey squirrelhunter, I think you did a great job. Sounds like fun popping barn birds with an air gun, I've been looking to get into something like that myself. Too bad I can't just take one of my AR's and convert it now that would be cool.

Guy's lighten up, he's doing a great job....way to go /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Pigeon........It's what's fer dinner /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif

And your a member of this site because............

look, we cannot always guarante a perfect shot, and if the animal has to go through a little discomfort, well i dont know about you guys but im okay with it.

i can think of plenty of gun shot critters that never die. too low of a shot just cuts belly and eventually heals over. Same with Brisket. I work part-time in a taxidermy shop, and have done several deer with small slugs lodged in jaws, noses and even one in an eye socket. all wounds were old, and scarred over. i shot the same fox twice. I rolled him with a shotgun early in the season, shot half his tail off, killed him about 2 months later in the same spot, only he took a 55 gr pill.

1000 fps in .177 will "ice pick" them and do nothing to get them to die more conveniently. The property owners of the places where I shoot don't care about a pigeon wiggling around because of average shot placement but they do care about metal roofs and pigeon poop.

Pigeon drop nicely using .22 cal/21gr Beeman Kodiaks. My carbine shoots those at 750fps and even that's too fast. The barns I shoot in have metal roofs (that don't require pellet holes) so even 500fps is more than enough to whack a pigeon and might be better for the roofing.

These pigeon can take a whallopping but not like GreyDiggers.

I got five pigeon the day before in a dairy barn on my way to "The Fishing Cabin." I have taken a total of 33 from this dairy and counted another 30+ yesterday flying around but I didn't have time, or energy after fishing all day, to wait for them to land.

"Those pigeon just fell off the rafters, musta lost their footing."

Do the pigeons a favor and use a more powerful Air Rifle. I am not against shooting pigeons, but it is wrong to not make clean kills on any living thing.

I would not shoot anything slower than 900fps in your situation.

I think he was doing a good job with a slower, less powerful rifle. "Improvise, adapt and overcome" definately applies here.

If it were my son I'd be right proud of him.

I'm no pigeon lover As I STATED ABOVE. Don't compare apples to oranges, bow hunting is about " shot placement ".

Now get along and go play cops and robber with your daisy.

I think he's doing a fine job... lotsa birds escape with shotguns... I don't see why you are singling this fellow out.

Maybe we should all just take up target shooting, and become vege-a-ma-terians.

Get over it. Some of you make me want to go kill more of them.

I think that's a great idea /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Shoot a few for me!

The CB's have a pointed bullet and just a pinch of powder.

I used to have an RWS air rifle and lost about 1/2 of what I shot. Switched to .22 CB's or even .22 shorts (when appropriate) and got MUCH better kills.
