pileated woodpecker distress

Do these birds fall out of trees all the time or what is the deal with them?
Is this a good call to use for predator?

I spend alot of time out in the nature and have yet to see or hear a wounded one.

I have seen the birds but not in the injured mode.

I've never heard one wailing away the way my call sounds, but every time I play my yellowhammer woodpecker sound I have at least one woodpecker fly by and/or come sit in a nearby tree.

I first used the sound on cassette tape in the 80s, and it's always been one of the best producing sounds for me.

We keep a good line of effective Barn Cats here. Mice in the barns and voles in the fields are something we detest.

During the summer we have significant numbers of these birds around. They seem to be easy prey for our mouse killers.

Ever strangled one by the neck........? Predators do all the time, they know what the sound is!

I don't think it would be able to get a peep out of it if I shut off it's air supply.
But I will see if I can sneak up on one and strangle it.

Trap935,

This is one of the very best sounds on my electronic caller - I've called everything with it. I start 95% of my stands with it.

Good luck,

Mark Healy

I was using it a couple weeks ago and
had a woodpecker fly down and attack my critter.
I guess it was trying to defend it's buddy from the cirtter.

I would think that this is would be a great call. Would like to find one in a sound wave or mp3 for my ipod caller. The yellow hammered woodpecker is my go to call for cats and yotes in heavy brush. good luck on building your call and keep a first aid kit handy they may not be so nice.

If you want the ultimate woodpecker call, come to Brinkley, AR and record the thought to be extinct Ivory Bill Woodpecker..
