Pink Guns, Kimber's first rifle (pic)

I did not want to hijack the "now I have seen everything" topic so I started this one to tell a story.

My daughter Kimber , (see the thread " Daughter's first coyote hunt")my wife and I were in Sportsmans Warehouse last spring. Kimber was 4 and riding in the shopping cart.

We were at the gun counter and I was picking up a Tikka T3 sporter in .223 and talking with the gentleman working behind the counter.

My daughter said something I could not understand and my wife asked for her to repeat herself. She looked the salesman square in the eye ( while standing in the shopping cart) and said "got any pink guns?"

I was kind of shocked, and the salesman looks at me to see if he should take her serious. I just looked at him grinning and raised my eyebrows and said "well do you?" in a half joking tone.

He smiled and said "I believe we do actually" and walked down the counter a ways and came back holding a pink plastic stocked "Cricket" .22 single shot rifle.

I picked Kimber up out of the shopping cart and sat her little rear on the counter. He opened the bolt and set it on the counter. I picked it up inspected it and set it in Kimber's lap.

She picked it up with both hands and while looking down at it said "Oh it's beautiful!"

That was all it took.

The gun salesman and I were grinning so hard it was funny.
Of course my heart melted. I just looked at him and said, "wrap it up"!

I would not have cared if it would have cost me a months salary. It was one of those moments.

She loves it.

I am in Iraq again and do not have a pic of the rifle on my laptop but I have a pic of her with the gun case that Grandpa found just for that rifle.

If my wife or daughter want pink guns, then by all means I will get them whatever they want. If I can't find it, I will have one built or do it myself.

I Love spending time with my family in the outdoors and if pink guns are a motivation for them then what the heck!!

Personally I like the look of the pink AR in the other thread because I think my wife would like it.

That's just my perspective on the subject.

Here is a pic of her with the rifle case she got from Grandpa, I wish I could have been there. My dad said she was very excited.

Happy hunting!

Good Post!
Your right, we must do what ever it takes to get our kids out into the outdoors and if its getting them a pink gun then thats what you should do. My daughters 10th birthday was coming up when we walked into a gun shop one day and she fell in love with a 10/22, it wasn't my cup of tea and she couldn't hunt with it but it ended up being one of her birthday presents that year and she put a lot of rounds throught it since.

Did you also get some pink bullets? My daughters (4 and 10) have to have all their pink stuff match or the world is going to end.

That is a great Story

ohh and Thank you for your service in Iraq

Lost River,
Great story and thanks for your service to this great country. I view it the same as you, if my daughter wants a pink gun, then she'll get a pink gun. As long as it gets her interested and outdoors, I don't care what color it is.

Reminds me of just over a year ago when I set my very first trap line. I asked my son and daughter both if they wanted to go. My son said no and my daughter said yes but "hold on Dad, I've got to get my pink gloves." So there we were, me setting traps and I look up and see my four year old daughter in rubber boots, pink gloves, and a pink GAP sweatshirt looking down the creek bank at me. That one will stick with me until the day I die.

I had my doubts about Christian rock one time too and my wife explained it to me in a way I understood. She said if it took that kind of music to get kids to listen to God's word, that was good enough for her. I agree with both of you.

Lost River, Thanks for posting the story and "Thanks for Your Service" for our country.

You have a cute little gal there and I know you miss a lot of good times with her... They grow up so fast.

My granddaughters love bright colors, whether it's pink, purple, blue, or red. They are just getting into shooting and I refurbished a 10/22 in bright red for them to shoot at the range...soon as the weather breaks, they will get to try it out.

Now, I guess I'll have to work on the gun case for it to match.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif that's awesome!!! i'm telling you get them started early. i'm 17, my dad got me my first gun, a h&r 410, when i was 5-6 and i've been hooked ever since. one of my dad's friends has said ever since i can remember "if you keep'm in the woods, you'll keep'm out of trouble" and it's the truth /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Great story. I was at the range last weekend and saw a young lady with her pink gun. She was so proud of it and she could use it too. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
Thanks and be safe,

Mine were young before the "Crickets" came in colors. In fact it was called a Chipmunk Rifle back then... But, it was my son's first rifle in 1988... A few years later it got handed down by him to his sister...

I had a conversation with her about that rifle just a few weeks ago. She (now 22yrs old) has informed me that it will be her job, just as it was her brother's (he was 11 or 12 then) to deliver it to her and watch over her (with Dad right there) as she learned to shoot, when it is "loaned" (it is now considered a family heirloom) to my granddaughter in year or two (she's five now). So, it might have helped if it was pink.. but I don't think my son would have liked it!

Starting them young and making it fun, great story. Now, I'd love to know where that pink gun case came from. I won't paint the Cricket but I sure would get my granddaughter that gun case.

FANTASTIC!
Where did Gandpa get the case? My niece needs one /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Maybe when she gets a little older, a McMillan PINK swirly stock will be in order...

Thanks for all the positive replies. As far as the case goes, I am not sure where my dad found it. He is currently on a cruise down around Mexico I think. He lives in the mountains and around this time of year he takes his bride somewhere to escape the cold for a week or two.

If no one locates one in the meantime, I will ask him when he gets back.

Lost River,

She is adorable. Has she shot it yet?

I really appreciate (and respect) guys/people like you who proudly serve our country. Be safe, and come home soon.
