Pistol scope on an AR??

Theres been a lot of posts of red dot sites, ACOGS, etc. Just wondered if anyone used a LER pistol scope on an AR? I just built a 16" AR. YHM flattop with the diamond fluted bbl, and went with the matching diamond cut, spectre length railed handguard. All I've got on hand right now is a $40 BSA red dot site to try it out with. Altho I've got a 20" AR also, I want to try this one for my calling rifle. I can't decide what optic I want to go with yet. Yesterday a friend offered to let me try a pistol scope since I've got a railed handguard. He tried it on his AR, but only had an extended rail on the upper rec. He couldn't get it forward enough to get it work with this setup. So, does anyone else have this type of setup? Wondered if it would work good, being able to have some magnification, but shoot with both eyes open? Greg

Don't know why it wouldn't work.
Ruger offered at one time a M77 Frontier with a forward mount position for a eer scope I think they called it a scout or something like that..

Ya, scout mount. Same thing I've got set on my mosin.

No reason it would not work. You probably would have a bit more precision than a reddot. I have two scouts and have used the $30 BSA pistol scope for several reasons: $30, big reticle, eye relief not too long, has withstood recoil on 45-70 and 12 ga without trouble. Your rifle may look funny with the extra high rings and forward mount but should work fine.

I had a M44 with that same scout style mounted scope on it and loved it. Killed several deer with that rifle when it was my truck/brush gun. I think it's a sweet idea on an AR with a quad-rail hand guard. but my AR is accurate enough that I would hate to give up my variable power scope when it come time to do a little PD work with the old AR...

It's been quite a while since I did that, don't remember where I picked it up. Probably ebay or midway. Just google "mosin scout" and I'm sure you'll find them. It replaces the rear sight ramp, uses the rest of the sight to mount to.

Not too sure I want to do it now. Buddy brought it over yesterday. Thing I don't like about it is the eye relief range going from 2.8 to 8 power. I'd be able to mount it for eye relief for say, 4 power. But if I wanted to kick it up to 8 to check something out a ways, that throws off the eye relief bigtime. Nothing wrong with using it as a fixed power, but I do like to kick it up a notch to scan for movement. It's a nice scope, a Nikon Monarch 2.5-8x28 EER, but it really doesn't do what I want (or think I want anyway). It was $280 at Scheels that he can't use either, said "Here try this"! Greg
