Might consider an inexpensive Red Dot. I put a Tasco Aimpoint on my old Ruger Mk I after I watched my friends wearing out PDs in WY this year with a scoped Browning Buck Mark and a S & W 617 6".
I chose a Red Dot because I am old[eyes get that way too] and had trouble getting fast sight picture using their pistols from field positions such as off-hood, window or side mirrors...bifocals and field of view issues got me. I was able to score hits on bowling pins at 100 yards from a BENCH with my set up on a fairly consistent basis..seeing bullet strikes on the berm made for fast corrections.
Both my hunting partners are younger guys and did well to >80 yards and as mentioned seeing bullet strikes on misses especially on moving dogs is a big help.
IMHO, anyone that doesn't take a scoped or red dot rimfire handgun on a PD shoot may be missing out on fun.
