It really seems to help with the smaller cases. Especially in the 700. The fireball cartridges can be tricky to eject. They sometimes like to flip over and back into the reciever.
 
Got a .221 FB that will be a .20 VarTarg. Got a .222 Remington that will be a .20-222. Both are CZ's. Yep every gun is different so the safety is not an issue. Lot's of good info on this over at Saubier.

The AR safety selector articulates forward for FIRE, same way a Remmy does

Forward....fire just makes more sense to me, but maybe I'm weird like that?

As for shotguns, even Mossberg is smart enough to use "forward to FIRE" safety, as are most other tang safety shotties.

I shoot a Benelli, which is the same "push in" (with the finger) to FIRE, same as Remmy shotguns. Although not "forward to FIRE", the finger does need to move forward to manipulate the safety into FIRE mode. SO, it's the same logical & natural movement...


MY buddy has an older Marlin 22mag boltgun with a bassackwards safety selector, so CZ ain't the only one to have it wrong

To me back to fire makes more sense?

You pull a hammer which direction??? Back.

Just my 2 cents. I likem all. Even guns w/o safety's.
 
My personal opinion, unless your going full custom, CZ has them itty bitty cartridges down. That mini-Mauser is perfect for that stuff.

Sorry, I didn't realize that your "wish list" was actually your "stuff I've already ordered" list.

I'd still choose a Sako Vixon action for a true light weight sporter, but there's nothing wrong with Stiller.

Yep that's a good answer Shane. I got one installed on my 243 AI Fred and really like the way it helps cases come out of the action. It's a cheap upgrade.

I was refering to position more than the direction the lever/button's pushed, but you have a point (sorta
crazy.gif
).

Don't know if it's true or not, but I've read that European military rifles (which is what CZ started out as) were specifically designed with the safty being "Pulled" like the hammer on a pistol for ease of training.

PS,,,, don't ever buy a single action revolver. You'll never get it to fire.

Well, after my original post, I went ahead and placed an order for Stiller action. Snipers Hide is having a group buy that ends this Sat. and I was going to be out of town after today for the rest of the week (hint I'll be fishing). They are $200 off regular price. Always figure I could use a 223 bolt face action, so I went ahead and placed an order after my original post. I haven't ordered any other parts at this time.

But I'll keep those Sako Vixen actions in mind for any future build.

We may have already talked about this, but Tod Kindler's (WoodChucks Den) 20VarTarg Turbo is nothing more than a 20/222. He's done more for, and certainly knows as much about small cals (especially 20cal) as anyone out there.
I'd give him a call and see what he has to say about twist rate and barrel length. He's a great guy that loves to talk 20cal's.
Heck, buying his "Terrific Twenties" book probably wouldn't be a bad idea while you're at it.

Thanks Pete that is terrific advice. I will be giving to a call. I have his sensational 17's book. I have talked to him several times. He really does have a wealth of knowledge and his bullets are great!

In a nutshell, whats the difference between VT turbo and 20/222
 
I'm sure Adam (AB BENTLY) would be a decent info source as well.

Am I reading it wrong? It seems the 20 VT is based of of the 221 fb and the turbo uses the full length 222 case as it parent? So, you get a hair more case cap?
 
Yep
Eleven's what most guys are using in their 20cals.
It'll stabalize everything up to 40grainers pretty easily and since the 35 berg and 39SBK are the only 20cal bullets that interest me, that's the way I'd go.

BTW, you just missed out on a group buy on 20cal Rock Creek barrels over on Saubier, but you might try calling Mike Rock and see if he has any left that you could pick up at a good price.
His 20cal barrels have a pretty loyal following with the small cal crowd.

I just got off the phone with Todd at the woodchuck den. He has the 20 vartarg turbo dies in stock so it looks like that's the way I will go. I also got his 20 caliber book coming.
