hey i might get an SKS in the traditional 7.92x39 and am wondering if this is a good caliber for coyote-i will hunt with deer with this too but i am just wondering if this will be a good carteridge for it.
The 7.62 x 39 will stop em good, but a little tough on the furs if that matters to you. I used that caliber (with HP) most of last year. Ive seen whitetail deer taken with it too. If youre only shooting to 100-125 yards youll be fine as long as you do your part (basic shooting skills).
There are calibers that might give you some other advantages, but the SKS will work fine, and hey, ammo is cheap !

Robb about covered it. I have an SKS and have had others in the past. They do what they were designed to do. Reliably get bullets downrange.
For me the SKS would be frustrating to use on coyotes unless hunting tight cover or other areas where shots will be close to mid-range. It will certainly do the job though.
Around here we fondly refer to the cheap but faithful SKS as "The Jackhandle" because you can use it for one in a pinch. LOL
Hey Skued, very well done camo job!! Bet that baby disappears!
Want to add one thing. When I said the SKS would be frustrating for me to use on coyotes, what I mean is although most of the coyotes I call come with in SKS range, a few will hang out farther. Rough and tight country, the SKS would probably out-perform a bolt gun.
