My 14 year old son wants his "own" rifle. I have promised him, if he has all A's on his report card, that I will have him a custom AR15 made in 243 WSSM by Dtech. He and I were amazed at the different configurations shown on the AR15.com forum, but most on that forum are not configured for deer and predator hunting. Please post your AR15 hunting setups so I can keep him interested in keeping his grades up! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Congrats on a son that wants to hunt and you for supporting his great habits. (And on that cat you got today.)

Here are 2 of mine.

The first is a close quarters gun. (High Standard 16" carbine) I have since added a 1" riser to the holosight and also got another riser and put a 6x18x50 Bushnell scope on it. I can switch out in the field in less than 10 seconds and still be sighted. I will have what I need regardless of the area I am calling.

Ok, finally got the camera and got the pictures.

Here is my Bushmaster Varmint Special. Topped with a Leupold 4.5x14x50 VXIII with Varmint Reticle.

I camo-formed it last week and man that stuff is nice.

( The black thing that is between the Scope and the forearm is an ELK industries squeaker )

Here's my baby at work. This critter was lasered in at just under 400 yards. It took two shots to anchor him for good. Gotta love that semi auto 2nd and 3rd and 4th and so on follow up shot. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Sorry that I did not use the search engine first /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif, but it did give you guys another excuse to show off your AR's. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

One thing I don't remember seeing is a hunting AR with the single vertical pod mounted to the bottom of the forearm that you hold onto as opposed to holding the forearm itself. My son likes the looks of this option and it seems that it would add a really postive grip to the front of the AR, any comments? I saw one on the AR15.com forum that had a bipod that came out the bottom of the pod. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

My son and I have never shouldered an AR. We will try to find one to size up one afternoon when he gets out of school.

The problem with all of this is I am starting to really want one also. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

You are gonna get one - and many more. You can't have just one. They are sooooooo easy to customize but you gotta be able to try out several configurations at one time. And you'll probably be changing configurations until you die of old age.
They are as addicting as predator hunting.

Here is the Oly K-16 I've been shooting, but my New D tech Oly UM-1P with fluting, compensator, moly resin, and Magpul precision rifle stock will be done in a couple of weeks. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

WOW!!! Kind of like a buddy of mine said about women... I LIKE THEM ALL!!!

BTW, Cjdavis, what camo is that that you used on your AR? It looks really nice. I'll have mine soon, keep the post going for a few weeks.

That is McNett "Camo Form" in Mossy oak breakup.

That rifle has a stainless bull barrel and reflects like a signal mirror. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I like it, but had to camo it. The camo form only sticks to itself and is easily removable. I've read that it leaves no residue.

The main thing I like about it is that the material is rubber based, so your hand will not freeze holding it in winter and if you hit something with the gun, it will not be as loud and it will be protected. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Yep, it gives us a chance to show off again.

Here is my son (11yr old) with his Bushy Varminter and this dog was a hair over 300yds. I wrap it with vet tape when I take it yote hunting..which I don't get to do very much...he always catches me /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Viper__15_.jpg

This is the description of the Viper.

The Viper" by Danny Cheatham of LazyD Guns.
Even though i've used Encore's and many different bolt guns the gun i use now is an AR15 built by Danny Cheatham. The DPMS upper sits nicely on the RockRiver lower. It has a Wilson 16" lightweight contour barrel with a 1-9" twist with a carbon fiber free float handgaurd, and Ace stock. The gun is nicely finished with a Dura Coat finish also by Danny. Though i don't know the secrets Danny uses to build and make a gun so accurate, this gun is amazing! It shoots sub MOA at 100 yrd. It is truly one of the most accurate guns i own. If you would like to visit with Danny Cheatham about your own personal build contact him at lazydguns@cox.net
