Thanks to all who replied. My son and I have enjoyed researching AR15's. We are going to purchase a lower tomorrow in preparation of sending it to Dtech for the custom 243 WSSM upper. The following is our proposed configuration. Any comments will be appreciated. We need to settle on options so we can place the order with Dtech.

Local FFL dealer has DPMS and Bushmaster lowers.

24" fluted barrel with full moly-resin antireflective coating and 1:10 twist.

Hope it will pattern with the new Winchester 95 grain XP3s.

Yankee Hill Free Float Forearm YHM-9432A.

Yankee Hill Forearm End Cap YHM-9484.

Yankee Hill Accessory Rails.

Magpul Enhanced Trigger Guard MAG015.

Magpul CTR Stock.

Armalite 1-piece scope mount, EX0027, to mount a Leupold VXIII 3.5-10x50mm scope we already have.

Trigger that comes with standard Dtech configuration.

Thanks in advance,

toomanyhobbies & Son

Great lookin set-up! Not waiting to see what the grades are, or was this for last semester? Sure is one fine rifle for a 14 year old young man. (Or a 34 year old man for that matter!) Congrats to your son.

Sorry, had a weak moment and gave in. To tell the truth, I got carried away with this project and got to wanting one myself /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif(the 47 year old kid in me). My son is a good responsible kid and if he keeps it up he will make the grade. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif We are having too much fun to stop now. Maybe he will let me borrow it sometime...

Your observation is probably correct with complete custom jobs running about half again that much. I haven't checked to see what is available on the used market.

In my case, this a priceless opportunity to share a project with my son that really excites us both. Since I already have several weapons, I would not have considered spending this much money on an AR15 for myself. Even though my son is welcome to go to the safe and pick any of my weapons to use, he wants a rifle of his own and I can understand that. His only dedicated gun thus far has been a youth model 870 pump with a fully rifled barrel for deer hunting. Here is a pic from 3 years ago of his first deer.

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif Good kids are not an accident, they are the product of Dad's spending time with them. It is obvious that you are doing so! Can't wait until my 3 year old son is big enough to work on a similar project with me. Anyone who has not taken a child outdoors cannot understand how much fun this adds to the hobby! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks yellow. It's growing on me. I liked it, didn't like it, and now I like it again. The little circles for bullet drop are a bit different than the Burris B-Plex reticle but I wanted the side focus on this so I went with the Nikon.

Hey, you're toy is brand new too isn't it??? Congrats!!

Basin boy,
Go on the net this past week I have seen a 595$ Ar-15 and you can buy an olympic arms K-16 for 639-659$ depending on the sight you go to. Also I suggest to you is getting ahold of Dtech if you are serious cause Mike Milli will do a trigger job and square the thing on up for you put it together and best of all he'll sell it to you for 629$.

Yes, mine is new too.

I was really talking about the Free float tube and not the scope. I went with the Burris FF and ballistic plex. The recticle seems to work great.

J&T upper kit on a Stag Arms lower receiver, 5.56mm with a 24" stainless bull barrel with a 1-8 twist, JP Rifles single stage trigger, Bushnell Legend 5-15x mil dot scope.

Here's mine! Dtech .223 with DPMS lower - Sightron Side Focus 6.5-20x50 mil-dot. I love it and the next thing I am going to invest in is an aftermarket trigger.
