OK doggin, you win! I bit the bullet and bought a poly lower. While I still and will always prefer forged aluminum, I got a NFA lower minus buffer and stock from Joe Bob for $70. Threw on an extra 6 position slider and put a pair of yellow trigger springs in it. I am trying to get a light weight rifle together. I'm using my old 16" 6X45. I was trying to get it down to 6 lbs. It does have an SPR barrel so it's not as light as it could be, but it's so accurate the barrel is staying, PERIOD! I switched out my RRA cantilever back to my Iron Sighter tall see through rings and dropped a half a pound. SO, here is my question. I have a Nikon Buckmaster 3-9 on the rifle now, and I love it. This Rifle is truly capable of sub 1/2 MOA groups, on a good day. It has shot under an inch at 200 every time I've tried on paper. The thing is the Nikon scope weighs 16.1 oz. I have a Weaver V3 1-3x that weighs 8 oz., which would put right at 6.5 lbs. Now I have had the scope on the rifle before and I could get sub MOA groups with the 1-3x, but it gets sub 1/2 MOA with the 3-9. WHAT WOULD YOU DO? Weight vs. Accuracy (at range)...

With that little difference in groups and even at 300 yards your still going to lay the smack on a coyote Id go with the 1-3x if you want it a tad lighter.
If it was my own, yup the 3-9 for the accuracy.

Pack both setups in the field and see if both are comfortable. Are you normally shooting 300yds? I put a 1-4 on my 243wssm and really like it.

well it gives me an excuse to put the 3-9 on the 6.8 and I have a 6x45 bolt in the works. I think I'm gonna try it.

You could also consider a carbon fiber float tube, they shave quite a bit of weight. JSE has the DPMS ones for really reasonable prices.

What in the world are you talking about Dustin???? Has some of that legalized weed from Colorado made it across the border?

I wouldn't use one of those plastic pieces of crap if you gave me a wheel barrow full. Haven't you heard those things will blow up, break, strip threads, put your eye out and all sorts of other nasty things? I suggest you send the POS my way and I'll dispose of it properly for ya.

As far as scope, never used or owned a 1-3 power. Most all of mine are 3-9. I normally have em set at 3 or 4. I think a 1-3 would not be such a bad way to go on a CALLING rifle. The field of view would be a big plus on some of the fly-by coyotes. I'd try it if I had it. You can always go with something else if you didn't like it.

Well I had to put a trigger in it... It's gonna need a safety switch too. But it is pretty light...

Well I swapped them. 6.8 lbs with a empty 20 round mag. See what happens now...

You didn't miss 6 pounds by to much. Looks dang good to me.

Leupold Rifleman see-thru rings? I love them dang rings for mounting scopes on AR's. Perfect height and light as heck. I've used a bunch of em and never had one problem. Even pick up and carry the rifle by the scope sometimes. But don't tell anybody.

I have a 2-7 Nikon Prostaff on order. It make have to go on it when it get here. It might be worth sacrificing a few ounces to get the extra scope power...

Well I think I'm gonna leave it alone with the Weaver V3 1-3x. Here is the first three shot group at 100 yards laser ranged off a bi-pod with a 14 mph wind at my back (zero value) on 3x power.

Photo's are actually upside down. I clicked it over 6 clicks right and it shot a half inch group 1.5" high dead center. I think that will work!

Yeah, I think I'd leave that scope on there too, if it was me...

Sweet shootin'!

We're gonna give it the old college try. It was pure luck, it shot three groups total. Another 1/2 and one just sub MOA (3/4ish). But I'm usually a good shot till you hang fur on it...
