PNW fishing

Didn’t know where else to post this so I figured some may enjoy some fishing stories.

I took my first ever guided fly fishing trip and we had a blast!! We went with Teeming Streams out of Spokane and made the drive to the Yakima River. The guide, Tyson Roberts, was outstanding and patient with 2 newbies, lol. Catching a wild trout on dry flies was unreal!! I’ll be honest, it wasn’t the fish we caught, but the fish we missed that will have me booking again next year!!

The very next day my brother and I went out on the Lake near where he lives and got into some good smallmouth bass. We don’t have those down here and it’s always a treat to hook into those bronze fighters! The smallmouth were bedding and we’d take turns casting to the beds we spotted. All our fish were caught in probably a little over an hour before the rains came! It was cold and miserable but with the fish biting we just couldn’t leave! I think we ended up with about 8 smallmouth chunks each.

Sounds like a great time! I'm heavy into Steelhead and used to flyfish for Atlantic's years ago. Bass are a nuisance here but the Smallmouth bass can be fun when nothing else is biting.

In Newfoundland now but I grew up in BC. used to go fishing with my grandfather in the Columbia river near castlegar so we were still before trail (teck cominco). Don’t know if they’re true but I heard stories of deformed salmon in the Columbia from trail onwards, pretty sad

I fish a bunch of the same rivers you mentioned and love bringing along one of those action cameras for fishing to catch the fights and river scenery. It’s cool to review the footage later, especially if something big gets away. Plus, it helps figure out what worked and what didn’t on certain days. I just strap it to my chest or sometimes mount it on the boat when I’m drifting.
