pocket pistol

Or you could move to Louisiana and carry it in a western holster, unconcealed. I carry a Ruger SP101. can fit in the blue jeans pocket and not noticeable. you are limited to 5 shots and with 357 loads it does jump.

Except for one county, you can carry any weapon openly in Nevada, you don't even have to be a resident. A concealed carry permit is not hard to get for residents, the rules for non-residents are more complicated.

you guys are lucky that you can carry a concealed weapon!! my job won't let us carry!! soooooooo i havn't carried anything from a ruger 22 thru 357 to a 380 now!!! when you walk rr tracks at night in watts, willowbrook,, south central LA and a bunch of other places that the cops won't go you tend to bend the rules a little!! been close a few times but never had to break the rules in 34 years!!

One thing no one mentioned is the new NAA Guardian in .32NAA. .380 brass necked to .32 with ammo by Cor-Bon. Gives a very small pocket gun with better than .38 Special ballistics. I think it ends up turning energy near a .38+P. That said I personally like the feel and handling of the Kel-tecs and Seecamps the best of the little stuff.

Pocket pistols? Here's what I have...

Get yourself a Remington Model 51 in .380 a.c.p.!!!! Good luck finding one, as they haven't been made in about 70 years, but they are a concealed carry gun par excellence! They are superb! For my close work I use a Remington "double derringer". It's an over/under chambered in .41 rimfire. Leaves a helluva hole in whatever it hits! Same problem though, they quit making them about 70 years ago!

I have a concealed handgun license but find it sometimes difficult to conceal even a subcompact glock in certain conditions. For instance, during the Texas summer a thin layer of clothing provides little "camouflage" for hiding my weapon. I'm considering getting a super compact pistol such as a Kel-Tec or North American Arms in perhaps 380 that I can carry in my pocket. If anybody has one of these super small pistols I would appreciate their input. Thanks.

Hi Skicat;

I'm from Pennsylvania. I'm a civilian and I have a concealed carry permit for PA. I carry concealed most of the time.

I had a North American Arms Guardian a couple of years ago. I sold it and bought a Keltec-32 when they were first introduced. The Keltec is thinner, lighter, and polymer;... it is much easier to conceal and to carry.

I also had a S&W Airweight Model 442 in 38 Special. This is the model with an internal hammer... that means that it is Double Action Only. I broke and mangled my triger finger in an industrial accident so I couldn't pull a trigger double action. So, I sold the Model 442 and bought a S&W Airweight Model 638-2, which is the model with the shrouded hammer. It is stainless, and it weighs in right at 16 ounces. If I shoot this revolver single action, the accuracy is more than acceptable. It is totally reliable even when covered in lint and "dust bunnies" from being carried in a pocket. (Sometimes semiautomatics aren't always reliable unless they are pretty clean and lubricated... it seems this is even moreso in the ultraconcealable semi's than with the full-sized "service" size semi's.)

Either the Keltec P-32 or the S&W Model 638 is my carry weapon.

I've owned a Glock, too heavy and too square;
I've owned a Walther PPK-S. Too heavy for the amount of power there, plus not always dependable.
I've owned a Colt Detective Special, which is a little larger and heavier than the S&W snubby, so why bother.
I've owned the aforementioned North American Arms Guardian.
I owned a Colt Mustang in 380, which was very nice but had manufacturing defects which Colt did not correct after several trips back to the factory. (It was amazingly accurate though.)

My preference, if at all possible to carry it, is the S&W Airweight Model 638 in 38 Special. If my trigger finger had not been broken, I would carry the "hammerless" S&W Model 442.

So, count me among the fellows who give their nod to a S&W snubby 38 Special.

Also, don't wear your clothes so tight and a S&W Snubby isn't that hard to conceal. I carry in an inside-the-waistband holster and don't tuck the shirt tail in. It hides well.

Also, if you are legal, what do you care that an experienced person can "make" you. It's not ideal, but aren't you legal? If they see a slight bulge it shouldn't be a violation? If they see a piece of the weapon, it might be considered "brandishing"? I don't know Texas law, but maybe you could find out?

I kinda make a hobby out of picking out where fellows have their handguns concealed! It's funny when I tell my wife very discreetly that someone is carrying concealed. The first few times she was a little unnerved, but I explained to her that if ever the SHTF, she would be glad that some folks do carry. Maybe it's just my philosophy?

Jerry.

I usually carry my glock 33 (subcompact 357 sig) in a Kangaroo rig. I don't know if everybody is familiar with this rig, so I'll explain. It is cloth band about 5 inches wide that has velcro straps on it. It fits around your chest and the weapon fits into a "kangaroo pouch" located under your arm. It works great and I highly recommend them. I also have a bianchi leather belt holster. It resides near the small of the back and works well I can drape clothing well below my waistline. My investigation of the "pocket pistol" is due to the fact that I'd like to not have to worry about "flashing" if I'm wearing a T-shirt this summer. I figure if I can find something potent enough to stick in my pocket I'd like to. I'm more interested in a semi-auto. I've been looking hard at the Kel-Tec and NAA versions. Thank you all for the responses, as always you have provided a wealth of knowledge.

Hi Coleridge,
Yeap there are some big bees down here. But the 45 is a wasp, a big one. Some 6 foot 2 dude weighing in at 230 or anyone hi on drugs or alcohol lbs ain't gonna "bee" stopped in his tracks with a .380. He "bee" on top of you with a knife in your chest while your still firing Bee Stings at him. Even worse what cha gonna do if there's more than one dude?

I carry a High Point Arms .380 semi-atuo. It was a cheap gun costing me onlt $115 and it fits tright into my front pocket. High Point Arms gives a life time waranty with their guns. I have shot mine about 75 to 80 times without having a shell jam up. The clip holds 9 shells if I remeber it right. You can buy them with a laser sight for about $200 and they aint a bad looking handgun either. It was the best $115 i've spent in a while.

"I've owned a Walther PPK-S. Too heavy for the amount of power there, plus not always dependable."

What was wrong with it? As far as dependability issues? I have a Walther PPK and it funtions great. It is however way too heavy for what it is...

Frankie,
I admit the .380 may not be the best caliber in the world. It is still a lot better than bringging a knife to a gun fight! I'm 6'3" 230 and I sure wouldn't want to get shot in the chest with one. Not the most powerfull, but I sure do beleive it would slow someone down alot more than a bee sting. Plus I'm only 28 and I can still run fairly fast... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif LOL

Kel-Tecs are great little guns! The P-32 and P-3AT (.380 ACP) will easily hide in a front jean or slack pocket. My buddy swears by his Kel-Tec P-11 (9mm) and carries it in is pocket on most occassions. The P-11 is not a great deal bigger than the P-3AT. Also, The DeSantis Pocket Nemisis is good, inexpensive holster for the above mentioned irons. I found it on line for about $20 and have liked it for nearly all applications/situations.

The Kel Tec P32 is junk in my experiance. I had a new one and every shot missed the paper at 7 yds. Then I discovered that a bullet hit something from about six feet away but it keyholed. So I sent the gun back. When they returned it I had it at the range and a friend was with me who shoots in the 280/300 slow, timed and rapid. He missed the target with the entire clip. I missed the target with the entire clip. Finally a guy who fixes trucks was there and he hit the target once.

The Kel Tec is too hard to shoot, has no safety so it should be carried in a holster and in general is junk.

Savage_99,

Sounds like you got a bad one... Most manufacturers occaisionally turn out a bad gun. Kel-Tec has wonderful customer service. Send it back again and be insistent that it is VERY inaccurate.

I routinely kill armadillos with mine at ranges from 3-20 yards. Most of the closeer shots are head shots.

At the range on 7 yard paper targets I can easily hold a 4" group and have never tried to do better since this is a "belly pistol".

As far as the lack of safety goes... I cary mine in a wallet holster that completely covers the trigger and pulling it requires a quite deliberate and long pull like most dao pistols.

Well, I had a Walther PPK/S and my buddy at work had an identical PPK/S. One jammed fairly often and one worked flawlessly. Go figure! Well, actually, over time, I think that I did eventually figure it out!

He suggested that the magazines were sometimes a problem with PPK/S's... someone told him that.

A few years later, I read a thread on one of the internet boards on magazine problems and PPK/S's,... according to that thread, the magazines are sometimes problemsome. If you get a good one, you got a good one! If you get a bad one, return it to the factory, or scrap it, and get a new one! Also, several fellows came to the conclusion that using the plastic finger extension as the base plate on the bottom of the magazine put pressure on the magazine and could sometimes be the source of the problem.

By the time I figured all of this out, I had made the switch to the S&W Snubbies, and I've never looked back...

Again, I mean absolutely no insult or slight to the PPK's. If there has ever been a semi designed with more beautiful lines, I've not seen it. And with the phenomenal accuracy that my PPK/S would shoot, I always thought that the 380 with some custom ammo would have been enough.

Who knows, if the laws ever change and they start importing the PPK again, (not the larger PPK/S), maybe I'll buy one again.

Regards to all,

Jerry.

Hey Savage 99,

If you still have your Keltec P32, send it back to the factory. Mine was a piece of junk just like yours when I bought it. I sent it back and after they repaired it, it works very well, and shoots accurately.

They changed numerous items on the piece.

They do have a good warranty and they will make it right.

Why on earth they don't catch these things in their Quality Control Department before they ship them out is beyond my guessing ability!

Anyway, I encourage you to ship it back, and they will do you right!

Jerry.

Savage 99, Ever think that your's may be the exception, rather than the rule? Sounds like you got a lemon. As the others have said, if you still have it, send back to the fine folks in Cocoa Beach, FL. They'll make it right. Granted, it's too bad they missed it the first time.
