Point blank zero, do you use it to sight in?

My 8mm rem mag and the 200 and 220 gr bullets for a 5" kill spot say around 230 yards for zero.
That puts it about 2.5" high at 100.
and out to 300 and still in the 5" zone.
No adjustment needed. It seams to work but I tend to shoot high as a mater of course, so I make sure I'm not fudging when I aim more so when It's 100 or less.
On the 6mm and 22/250 It says 197 for the 22 and 220 for the 6 for a 4" zone. that's 1.8" high at 100.
BUT that's a miss on a prairie dog at 100.
For a 2 inch window it calls for just under an inch at 100 and 187 PBR .
I think when I get started on my New bullets for the 22 that's what I will keep it to. The 6 is death at 250 so no change on that after the scope swap.
What say you?

For my 22-250 I need to be .75-.8 high @100 yards for 200 zero. I dial for longer shots when possible(always dial shooting pd). My scopes ride a little higher than the 1.5" default setting in most ballistic tables.

I use it. 3" high at 100 in most of my big game rifles. I've been doing that since I got my first big game rifle, pretty simple to adjust point of aim for a smaller target. Even deer or small antelope have a pretty big kill zone, and in real world hunting conditions an exact aiming point may be a bit hard to determine. For some big game hunting you have the time to range and adjust sights, but I have killed many animals where there was not enough time to do all that before the animal takes a couple of steps and is gone.

I also use it but very conservatively. A 5" vital zone with a "max. ordinate" of 2.5" is going to cause some bullets to hit high depending on your group size at that particular range, etc.

I found a ballistic table from an air-gun forum that is great,
Strelok. It has a couple of versions, a free one and 2 paid. After using the free version I bought the Pro version for $12.00 and it is constantly up graded.

You can program everything from centerline of bore to scope, recital, velocity , barometric pressure, etc, etc. It will give max point blank range as well as adjustments for what ever range you desire from 0 yards out to infinity, in whatever increments you set, 5, 10, 25 yards.

Check it out.

I always zero my scopes at 100yds. I also always pre-dial my MPBR on my turret before hunting. Best of both worlds. Simple to confirm zero if needed and still get all the benefits of mpbr for hunting.. I use a radius based on my target. 5" for elk/ moose, 4" for deer and 2.5" for coyotes. Since my rifles are generally hunting rifles they stay pre-dialed. If I decide to shoot groups or just confirm zero I dial back to 0 and I'm ( or should be ) dead on at 100
