Polishing Brass

What is the best and easiest way to get the brass to look good? I tried different polishes but they don't clean them very good.

Try Mothers polish, rag and a drill with a shell holder.

Spin the piece of brass in the rag with Mothers polish on it.

The best way is using a Thumler's Tumbler with a double handful of stainless media and soapy water. The easiest way is with a vibratory tumbler.

And you can use Mothers liquid formula for brass and other metals in the corn cob or walnut media.

No! After all, you don't put rocks in them. Just a couple hundred rounds of brass, about 5 pounds of stainless media (looks like tiny footballs or little rods) a squirt of dishwashing liquid and the rest warm water. Let it run for 2-3 hours and you got the prettiest brass you ever seen.

I use Lyman's media in a tumbler. I prefer the red colored media. I think its walnut with rouge in it. Makes the brass prettier that new.

I use a tumbler with Lizard litter (ground walnut found at Pet Smart) cheaper by the bag than specific tumbler media. I add a cap full of Nu Finish liquid car polish and a dryer sheet cut up into 1 inch strips. The dryer sheet keeps the media clean. This process works like a charm!

Tumbler, corn cob media, couple of drops of nu finish car polish, and a drier sheet.

The first three shine nicely and put a little bit of a protective coat on the brass (nu finish).
The drier sheet picks up a lot of the carbon and oxide dust and prolongs the life of the media a little better. Used drier sheets work good, just save them after you pull your clothes out of the dryer.

there is so many tumblers out there and I will only be tumbling about 100 .223 cases a year so what one would you recomend. Is there a cheaper one made that uses the stainless steel media?

I wouldn't bother with the stainless media tumblers because your arnt going to be doing mass volumes. Look at the Frankfort kit on midwayusa.com
I think it's onsale right now and comes with everything you will need for 60 bucks.

Yeah. I would agree with that. I have had many of compliments on how shiny the brass comes out for me.

I use corncob before I do anything with the brass. De prime with Hornady one shot as the lube and then let it tumble again for another 3 hours.

If you are just doing 100 cases a year not sure if reloading will really be worth your time. Not to deter you from reloading because it really is fun. Just that the setup is really going to cost you a lot of money.
