Gary,
I think he wants the pelt. My 6.8 doesn't offer that
option on most hits.
The 90 gr. Sierra
gives new meaning to exit hole. It also makes a mess
on quartering towards shoulder shots or neck shots.
If saving fur is the goal, I would also recommend the
204 Ruger with some experimentation on bullets. The
39 gr. Sierra would be where I start.
I don't save fur. I want to dispatch coyotes with extreme
prejudice, and our northern coyotes are big. The 6.8 SPC in
an AR-15 platform shines in this application, and can
absolutely tear up a coyote family group.
My sister-in-law freaked out a bit when she heard me go
through most of a 10 round mag on a coyote pack one evening.
My brother knew what happened.
If I would have been
using a 204 Ruger upper, with the intention of saving pelts
I would have been skinning a while. I just want to save
fawns and turkeys. A 6.8 SPC is perfect for me.
