Porcupine eyesight

Went out at about 7PM to take a walk and do some scouting. On my way back down the dirt road I heard alot of noise in the woods. First I thought ,moose, then deer, I stood still. I knew it would be huge! It kept coming but I couldn't see it. Then I saw it. A little porcupine. He just kept coming towards me. Then inside 10 Ft he noticed me and just stared at me. Then I started to walk again and he turned around and waddled off. How well can a porcupine see? Are they all this blind?PC

Well I dont know about America porky's, but here in Africa, well I am conviced they are not very good with eye sight! I have observed many and most of them also seemed bad eyed.

Our porky's are big or let me say grow very big. They are classed as Africas biggest RODENT. Our porky's have long quills as supposed to the American porky's short quill. ( Forgive me if wrong). But our porky's are nocturnal.

Two weeks ago on a calling course I was calling at night and 5 came past me, not to the call, they just happened to be in the neighbourhood. The biggest one looked at us all the time. I put out the red lght and I could see him clearly at night as he was standing on a white sandy road, and hunting in Sutherland the air is totally un polluted and clear and fresh. He looked at us for a long time, even as we blew calls, he just stood looking at us, he was no more than 6 feet from the truck, but he seemed confused and did not even show any sign of panic.

Drop me a line and I will send you two photos of a porky that was attacked by a Pittbull. The winner? PORKY! The poor Pittbull, man what a mess.

There nocturnal here too. I'd love to get some of those quills from one of those african monsters! We get them occasionally around the house and the barn. If you injure those things they really scream! It's like a hungry baby with an amplifier! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
