Portable field rest for handgun hunting?

Any good ideas for a field rest for hunting with a long-range handgun? Something that would be lightweight and easily portable? I use bipod sticks for my rifles and that works really well, but haven't found a great solution for the pistol. A small sandbag works when there are rocky outcroppings to set up on, but aside from that I haven't found a good solution yet.

I use stoney point sticks. I found that putting the frame in the v of my sticks, elbows on my knees with my back against a tree was the steadieat hunting position.

I use my chair to sit in and rest my hands on my knees. The chair is the Mossy Oak Turkey Thug.
It sits about 3- 4" off the ground. Same principle as Sandy Hicks but I am off the ground, and it is light weight. It has been awhile back and it was on sale at the Walmart for 20.00
This shooting position is one of the best there is for long range especially.

I tried the MTM thing but was never really happy with it. As far as sand bags,,, Some pistols have enough blast from the cylinder gap, that they will cut a sand bag ( I am speaking leather too ) 500 S&W worst culprit. Ruger blackhawk cut one of my good bags long time ago.

Give a bog-pod tripod a try. I use it when hunting deer with a s&w 629 44mag. If your sitting with your back against a tree it is very solid. You can also use it kneeling and even standing if needed. Best thing about it you can use it predator hunting with a rifle.

What kind of LR handguns?
Revolvers?
Single-shot specialty pistols?
What kind of distances are you wanting to be able to hit your target at?

Unless something has changed, XPhunter/Ernie is going to recommend the Bog Pod PSR topper on a Bogpod tripod. I'd second his (forthcoming) recommendation highly. He turned me onto the PSR several months ago, I've been incredibly happy with it.

I have a Tac-3S and an HD-3 from Bog Pod now, both very solid tripods. HOWEVER, I ended up putting my Bog-Gear PSR handgun rest on top of a Primos Triggr Stik Tripod (with adapter), there was a little run out in the handset of the trigger stick I had to deal with, but overall, it has been very solid, and I'm very pleased with this rest. Absolutely improved my long range wheelgunning stability AND reduced my set up time.

Easy to accomplish that with the Bog Gear tripod and PSR top that Varmint Terror described. I can usually stay on 10" targets out to 450-550 yards with SP's and out to 200+ with my Franken Ruger Revolvers.
