Portable press stand

I just thought some of you might be interested so I decided to share this.

My shop where all of my reloading equipment is located is not heated and I wanted a temporary way to do a little reloading inside where it's warm.

A quick trip to Horrible Freight and they had just what I needed, a grinder stand for less than $30 with a coupon. I already had a cutting board that I could use for the top and a spare RCBS single stage press. A few bolts later and a little time, I now have a way to do a little reloading inside where I can feel my fingers.

I've already sized 60 pieces of 223 brass with it and it's about as solid as my regular bench mounted press. It's very stable too without any movement. It's going to work out great.

Well that is great idea to be sure. Harbor Freight and a little ingenuity have prevailed once again. Looks good too.

Quite a few years ago I was at a gun show and there was guy the selling an apartment size reloading setup. It was more or less a small (one foot square maybe) platform mounted on top of a 4' or maybe 5' pole. On the platform was a modified RCBS (Rock Chucker I think) press. A seat to sit on was attracted to the pole with an adjustment for it slide up and down. Lower down the pole were bicycle pedals and they were attached by linkage to the press. A teenage boy was demonstrating it to the crowd. Push one peddle down the bring the ram down and push the other peddle to bring the ram back up. Let me tell you, he was going to town sizing some brass on that thing. That kid was no more than 120 lbs I dont think and it looked as if it was almost effortless for him to operate that contraption. Since he was using leg power he had both hands free to handle the brass. The outfit was really stable too because the weight of the operator held it all down. I did not buy one but I will thought it was pretty cool. I never saw any more at any other gun shows so dont know what happened to them. Still, I did think that it was clever.

That does look nice.

I don't think I've ever admitted this on a shooting or hunting site but I've loaded at least 7000 rounds of ammo from .40 s&w to competition 260AI on a lee press that has never once been mounted on a surface of any kind. I just use it on my lap, as portable as it gets and when I'm loading rifle ammo I can get it in a good position to rotate the case 4 to 6 times as I'm seating the bullet and that has led to very low concentricity runout and great accuracy.

Thanks for taking time to measure it Houser. My reloading is done in a non -heated garage so this does sound like a good idea to get some more accomplished.
