Powder scale vs. Electronic scale

I use a hornady scale and have thought alot about gtting an electronic scale thinking it will help me be more consistant. Have these proven to be accurate over a long period of time? If you like them, what brand will you recommend? Thanks

EDIT: I accidently double posted this topic, sorry guys but thank you for your replys.

RCBS seem to be a real favorite around the PM. Especially the chargemaster combo. I do think if you get one make sure that it comes in an ac power not just batteries. A good solid power source helps.

Thanks for the tip. Ther are two choices in RCBS at the Bass Pro Shops i go to. I think the main difference is the capacity. They carry a Lyman also. I think thats all they have.

Do you feel like it is consistant with its weights even though not as accurate?

I feel the same way. I dont trust my RCBS electronic. I have to watch it real close. It will start to read on the plus side for no reason after a few loads. I have sat and watch the tenths go up with nothing on the scale. I trust the balance beam a lot more than I do the electronic.

Maybe you could look around the bench for some of the items spoken of in the link, unclenick covers a lot of it in one shot.

Electronic Scale

We used to place Ferrite cores on video cables where I work. I use the cores at home and a UPS to prevent line noise issues. The UPS with Surge will protect those expensive home electronics. It is still possible for one to fail and equipment damage can happen.

A Line Conditioner is used on my TV at home and something I would choose over a UPS if picking between the two. That would change to the UPS if you are are trying to save data on a PC or if you have a phone with your cable company or VOIP, it will keep the phone in service if the line is not damaged until the battery fails.

The Line Conditioner kept at a distance from the scale would be the best choice. The correct lighting and no fans. My 2 cents
.

I use a Pact and have had no problem what so ever. I check it now and then with the weights that came with the scale and then check 3 or 4 loads on my beam scale. Right on the money. I have had mine for about a year. If I remember right I bought it through Cabela's.

It seem like you asked this twice. You have a balance beam and not an electronic right? Here is a plus. Use you balance beam to your hearts content. I use mine. It has been used since who know when. But here is my .02 cents.

Technology advances and so does everything else. Now the beam works great. Does not NEED to be replaced. But for time issues the chargemaster and other products like it have been invented and I do not think that it is less accurate than the beam.

I think they were made for 2 reasons. Convenience for you and Money for the companies that make them.

I will use my beam until I can afford something like the chargemaster. However every time I load with my beam I wished I had something that was faster and just as accurate. I do use my buddies chargemaster when I can and have never had it not measure flawlessly. I would calibrate any electronic scale before I use it with the weights every time.

Once again nothing wrong with the beam scales. Will always work great.

Alright. That answered my next question....can it be recalibrated when/if necessary. I may pick one up yet.

Edit:yes, i just realized i posted this topic twice. Sorry about that but i appreciate the comments from all you guys.

I think my electronic is consisent enough for most things,Im sure not worried about blowing up a gun when im useing it but i use my blance beam on all my long range loading.

I have been using a PACT since 1995, and it has always been very reliable. It will hold calibration for months on end.

I also had a Chargemaster Combo 1500 for a while, and the scale portion of it was about as good as the PACT. I sold it because I felt like I had too much money tied up in it at the time.

I bought the PACT way-back-when so I could quickly and easily weigh cast bullets, but now I use it all the time for everything. I have also kept my RCBS 5-10, it just doesn't get used very often.

In my experience the digital scales work a lot better when the are used to weigh a charge, but they suck wind when you are trickling powder into them.
I have a dayton mxx 123, but I trust my balance beam scale and check weights more.
