Powder Sticking To Case

I'm fairly new to reloading. I have a question regarding powder. If the powder is sticking to the netcase walls and not going all the way in the case. When it goes in, it clogs up and doesn't go to the bottom of the case. It is also happening inside the measurement container. Almost like static electricity is keeping it sticking to the sides of the container. I'm using Benchmark powder. Is there some way for this to stop happening? Is there anyone that has experienced this before? Thank you for any help in this matter. I appreciate it.

This is caused by oil or water in the case.

Some times, oil from sizing the case gets in the neck, and the powder sticks to it, jamming the mouth and blocking the rest of the powder from going in.

Wash your cases and dry them with wifie's hair drier (best done when she is out with her friends - don't ask me how I know this!!)

I always tumble the cases before sizing and after full prep, before priming. I have not had that problem.

I have never used Benchmark, but I think it is an extruded powder. If that's the case it may be stacking into a "lock" so to speak. If so, you may consider a drop funnel of 3" or more. If "locking" is the issue you should be able to tap the case/funnel and watch a little bit more fall in.

BenchMark is so tiny that it flows like a ball powder.

AZ coyote,

Wash your plastic drop funnel in dishwashing soap and dry well, that should take care of the static problem.

The stacking inside the case is another problem. I don't know the answer to that but I would guess sizing lube inside the neck.

You can't have static in the case - if it had any static (which is extremely rare), it would be lost as soon as you picked it up.

It is either water or oil.

A C, I couldn't tell from the original post if you are using a powder drop dispenser or not. Like this one:

But when I first got mine, powder was sticking all through it from some kind of rust inhibitor they had shipped it in and I had to totally tear it down and wipe every surface with alcohol swabs to get it clean...After that I've never had a problem.

Like the others, it's my feeling that somewhere you've gotten some kind of lubricant in the process that is causing the powder to hang up. The same with your cases..

I always tumble mine as the last thing before priming and charging them to insure that all lubricants are removed, or neutralized..

Hope this helps..

I've used dryer/anti-static sheets to wipe down the inside of my powder measurer. Some powders just seem "stickier" than others. H-335 is about the "stickiest" i've dealt with. The dryer sheets seem to work in the measurer and in the funnel. Sticking inside the case necks almost has to be lube or water. Try the dryer sheets, it helps.

sizing lube inside the neck is what does it to me. That is why I'll rinse them in boiling water with some white vinegar and dish soap, then dry in the oven on a cookie sheet at like 170* with the door just propped open to get rid of the evaporating water. Works like a charm.
