POWELL FOR OBAMA: IT'S NOT ABOUT RACE

Quote:
As mentioned in another thread, Obama has already said there would be a place for Powell on his staff.

I think it has more to do with job security than race. I'm also sure that if McCain were ahead in the polls, Powell would probably be endorsing him.

Totch, +1! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Jeff,
I disagree with you on the job security. Colin Powell is a wealthy man already. His military retirement is a drop in the bucket compared with what he demands for speaking fees right now.

He stepped away from the Bush Administration, I believe now, because he could not stomach the war on terror. Read my post before about being the 'Peace General'. Now he wants to get back into the middle of it again??? It's not on principle, IMO--but all about WHO Obama is.

If he was a true warrior, he would not side with a weasel! (My apologies for insulting weasels)

Regards,
Tim

what scares me is the fact that i am a member of different sites on the internet... only this one being gun related and as i would assume biased toward the 2nd ammendment..so i would know how they would lean though every site i am on is 99% for mcain yet obama is still leading in the polls... i just shake my head and wonder where all the votes are coming from..
i drive down the road and all i see is mcain signs and palin signs and very seldom do i see a obama sign yet he's still leading.... it just makes me scratch my head...

I'm with you nightwatchmen. At least 80% yard signs & bumper stickers in my neck of the woods[of course I live in a Redneck area that cling to our guns & Bibles] support McCain/Palin & I personally don't know of any Hussien Obasm supporters unless they are afraid to tell me they are.
Maybe us Rednecks need to intimidate the panty waist libtards some more. Just funnin witcha b'fore y'all get upset.

Bob and Nightwatchman,
I think this is a very good example of the media TRYING to pick the president.

Remember the exit polls had Kerry winning by a large margin 4 years ago?

McCain is picking up steam--I am hoping the next 14 days are the turning point!

Our creator, GOD, the Alpha & Omega, creator of ALL things in our world commands that birds of a feather will flock together.
There is no such thing as RACISM in our world. It is the natural order of things.
I'm not surprised that blacks support blacks. They are following GOD'S law. I'm OK with that. Now, what about the whites? Is 'that' racism?
That should get me my walking papers. PC sucks!

Until Powell came out with this I thought that he could actually think.
I've already voted and it wasn't for bambam. It wasn't because of race either, I just think he is the worst choice this year (since Hildabeast didn't get the nomination).
For some reason the worst presidents since I started voteing have always been Dumbocraps. The Dumbocraps that havn't gotten in seam to be worse. This country just can't afford them.
As for Supreme Court justices, we will be having to put up with them for the next 30+ years. Considering that, I would sooner that they be very conserviative. We don't need judges making new law with no input from the electrite.

Mr Johnson has been asked If he would Kill American Citizens in the Performance of his duty to DisArm said Citizens. He has replied in the Negative. The real question is Would we law abiding citizens stand by and let Whomever attempt to Disarm us? I think not. I also spent 20 years in the Military and I agree with Mr. Johnson on this point. But pity those who try to enforce Disarmament.

Thank you for your service.... And your candor. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

This guy is a PM mod? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

As for Mr Johnson being a Mod here. That is not a problem. He undoubtedly has the credentials to become a leading member here, in order to obtain the position. His political beliefs are not affiliated with PM. We all need to remember that. But, I have always heard that there were liberals in the Military, I just never have met one before. In fact, I was starting to not believe it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

Totch 94 I respect all of your opinions as youve laid out. I will give you a few of mine so we know where each other stand.

Abortion

Im for it if it can be regulated. I dont feel it should be used as a form of birth control. I think victims of rape and mothers who are pregnant that may be at risk of serious or lethal health complications should have the freedom to abort. Wipe out abortion and raped women will be forced to give birth.

Taxes

He has said that he will not increase any taxes on anyone recieving less than 250,000/yr. Those above that will see a small increase.

Death Penalty for it

2nd amendment Shouldnt be touched

Gay Marriage His vp elect made a nice little spill saying he agrees in allowing partners of a gay marriage the right to hospital rights, property sharing rights, insurance rights, but when re-asked by the moderator he said no he's not for marriage. Im not for them, I dont think either side is.

Too much government Not for it, but when too many loans are given which many republicans call criminal when needing to be bailed out, I think yes more government oversight is needed with the lending institutions to protect that 750 billion we just gave up.

Just a few of the hot topics, I cant address them all. But you can see that I dont vote strictly on party lines. I agree with a little here and there, but the issues more important today requires a different course.

Thanks Jeff and others for you gracious support. Yup had my arse in the grass and about to again. Just got done packing the duffle bags.

Stealth1959 "this guy" is a PM mod, imagine that, democracy. The blinders arent really you.

Sorry, but for a small business owner.. $250k is not a lot of money. Once you pay the taxes, overhead etc etc. it is gone and the owner likely still lives on change.

One thing is for sure, I have never heard of a broke business owner hiring someone.

If the person is an individual that makes that in salary, they are already getting 35% of the earnings anyway. not to mention all of the personal property taxes, sales taxes etc, etc. All in all, it is probably closer to 50%

Yep, what a great socialis... oops society we have.

Cjdavis, I do not claim affiliation with any particular party as I don’t agree solely with either one. Non-fiscal Ill go Republican on 80% of the issues, fiscal Democrat. So the term conservative or liberal cant be pinned on. Id be voting Rep, if they produced a candidate with a different and I mean a DIFFERENT set of views concerning the war strategy. Kick more butt in Afganistan and leave Iraq. Its not leaving with our tails tucked, its chasing the enemy. As we will just relocate. Im all for being sent there, unfortunately my number keeps getting pulled for Iraq.

And about being a mod, youre right, I have the right to post in this forum as much as anyone. I have obeyed the TOS, if I haven’t my peers will rule me out. I possess a pretty unpopular set of views on a hunting board, I knew I did. It could be looked at as suicide coming in here. But outside of a hunting board Im not way off base. Im proud of my views and as some have said I have been on the spear tip of this war so therefore earned the right to express them.

John McCain is a hero. And is ready for the presidency. I simply dont agree with him on several issues.

TJ,

Thank you for your candor and discussion. If you are for the Death Penalty, Against anyone touching the 2nd Amendment, Against Gay Marriage, and Against Abortion being used unchecked for birth control, let me be the first to say "Welcome to the Republican Party"! If you are looking for those stands out of the Democrats, and expecially Obama, I'm sorry to inform you that you'll be looking for a long while.

If you believe that he can increase spending ONE TRILLION DOLLARS and not raise anyone's taxes except "a little for those over 250,000" I have a bridge over the river Chappaquiddick that I'd like to sell you.

I would hope that you would be more comfortable with a man who graduated from the US Naval Academy, flew fighter jets, spent 5 years as a POW and served his country in uniform for 22years as Commander In Chief than someone who did not serve and was doing Cocain at Harvard instead during his early 20's.

Once again, I do appreciate your willingness to have a spirited discussion without either of us falling into name calling. I honor your service to our country and thank you for all that you have done and are continuing to do. You have earned the right to vote as you wish and speak your mind. I hope God will bless you and keep you safe if you go back into the middle east. I only wish you would change your mind and your vote!

Tommy,

If your biggest concern is spending. Then why isn't your focus more on congress than President? Regardless, I can't believe you think that Democrats are fiscaly responsible. They are just better at accounting fraud.

The spending still must be approved my congress. Regardless what the plan is by the Pres. It means nothing if Obama gets in and the Dems lose the required seats in the house and Senate. Likewise for McCain.

At least McCain will have a conservative at his side that will guide him on those matters.

the last dem who ran on lowering taxes was bill clinton. he won, was sworn in & 16 days later on TV, chewing his lip, saying "I know I promised a middle class tax cut, but I've worked harder than ever before in my life & we just can't do it."

He & the democrat controlled then proceeded to raises in people all the way down to $20,000 per year income.

And those tax increases were applied to go into effect well before the date the new tax rates were signed into law.

Haha not so easy Totch but its been fun debating with you and Im glad it was all above board. You know before this election I was the guy sitting on my couch watching McCain thinking I wish that guy would run. And wth happened, lol?

Prior to jumping on the ballot, he had interviews elluding to not being in support of "Bush's war". Then he began his speeches of being there for 100 more years if need be. We already have a Germany and South Korea, we dont need another long term duty post.

Regardless of our differences, its been fun. I dont frequent the church much but I think Ive worn out my welcome this time. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'll be sure to watch the down wind side when over there. Maybe I'll try this misting thing Ive heard so much about. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I agree Stu but something has to happen with the national debt/deficit. And Clinton seemed to do something right. If we keep thinking that it doesnt exist and arent willing to take responsibility for our actions, maybe itll go away?

*Note, in millions.
DeficitRealDollars1941-2009.gif

Looks like Reagan, Bush Sr and Jr like(d) to shop.

raising taxes does not raise revenues. it does the opposite.

spending more than you take in causes deficits & for all their screaming, the dems have openly stated that they want to spend even more than we have been. Last spring, after complaining about the $3.2 trillion budget bush submitted, they turned right around & proposed an additional $252 billion.

Obama's numbers simply don't add up. He's trying hard to give over $800 billion of our taxes to the UN while he's out there talking about "responsible spending".

His record doesn't match his words. Not on guns, not on taxes, not on spending, not on anything that I can find.

also, keep in mind WHY he wants to raise taxes.

The spread it around. Marxist redistribution, pure & simple. Take it from those who earn it & give it to those who did not.

He isn't saying we need to raise taxes to pay for interstates, military, coast guard, border security, nothing like that.

he has now openly said that it is correct & proper to use the might of the federal govt to redistribute that which you work for.

I call a heaping, steamy pile of fresh bull squeeze on that.
