Prairie dog hunting in April?

Quote:
Generally zinc phosphide or aluminum phosphide, if I remember correctly. Basically turns into a gas similar to mustard gas, when activated by moisture.

If I get to the pasture before Jay does it won't matter. Thus the pre-April shooting. While I'm there I'll take a pic of the process.....assuming I have time for such idle tasks.
Or I could just email my brother in law, have him take a pic and post it.....nah way too much trouble.

Dry land farming cannot rely on rodenticides that require much moisture....

zinc phosphide is the coating on the rolled oats, the other are tablets that react with moisture even humidity will make them turn into phosphine gas, some add water to the holes not recommended as you can get a violant reaction.
I would love to see the label for sodium cyanide down a hole!

Dear WHunt 64,

Looks like you got a lot of information to think about. Some of it accurate and some of it not. We all have opinions, I would suggest finding someone who you can trust that knows about such matters and following his advice. Prairie dog numbers are increasing where I am!

The guys who come out and shoot with me typically don't spend a whole bunch of time worrying about such matters. We'll leave the poisoning to the neighbors. And of course we shoot for free...........
