Prairie dog pups

Anyone else seeing any small pups in the dog towns right now? I was checking cattle Saturday and came across 2 different holes that had pups that still really little, about the size that we normally see in mid June. Most of the other pups are nearly the size of the adults now, but these were nowhere near that big. After the snows we had this winter and spring I'm pretty convinced that it messed with the heat cycles of some of the females.

Nope , the ones I saw today were all red and weird looking (inside out) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Still seeing lots of very small ones on the farm. I can't get away to go shoot them for a month tho. So by then they will be full grown ..........

Ok, it's Tuesday and I'm back from shooting p-dogs. Man was that fun.

The grass was TALL! Very hard to see the critters, which made this more like a hunt than a "shoot". But there were lots of them, you just had to be a bit more patient.

As for "pups" we did not see any real little ones, but there were some that were obviously smaller than others. Oh, and because of all the rain in this area all the grasses & weeds are 1'-3' tall and providing lots of food for the little buggers. Some of the dogs were Fat, almost like a ground hog.

Which state were you shooting.

joghotrod, we were in norhtern AZ. Not the best place to go, but it's better than nothing.

Next year I hope to go to Wyoming. From I what I read and one of my friends says (he's been there) I better bring at least two more varmint rifles (which I do not have.)Guess I better remind my wife that in addition to Christmas my b-day is also coming up.

Loadin the truck Thursday night to go out and bust a few. Sounds like I may be the only shooter this trip, my most excellent spotter is going but my young son has social life he seems to want to participate in. My other shooters backed out for schedule problems.

If I hurry I could make it there by Friday. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif I wish.

Have fun.

My last three day foray, this last weekend. I didn't see pups but I saw a whole lot of big fat ones. They have been dining well and make for some pretty special effects.
When they start looking like little prairie buddahs you know they are ready for harvesting.

prairie buddahs...good one..lol
I am takin my fiances son with me this trip. He loves to shoot and has been hunting quite a bit with me. He is 12 and cant wait to go. He worked extra hard on his grades last Spring to be allowed to go. From MN here its not too bad a drive for a weekend shoot
